CR & Proof Reading

are there any ways to improve my scores?

CR: i'm a pretty slow reader and i have to read the passage at least twice to understand it, in order to answer the questions. i tried the method of reading the questions first but it seems rather impossible to answer them just by scanning through the passage!

Proof reading: i found it quite difficult to spot the mistakes, since english isn't my first language and my grammar really isn't that good. are there any websites with exercises that can help me improve in this particular area?

many thanks! this is quite urgent since i'm taking the test in oct... =(

First of all, you shouldn't be reading the passage twice; that's waaayyy too much time. I usually read it once, then refer back to it when answering questions. There really isn't any quick solution to this. If it's the vocabulary that's bothering you, memorize some word lists. Otherwise, the only way to improve your comprehension is to read more, especially newspapers.

For writing, I suggest purchasing the Official Study Guide for the New SAT (Blue Book) and going over every type of error that comes up on the SAT. Hopefully that will help you spot the errors.

Good Luck!

i've just done my first practice test on the New SAT 11 tests book by Princeton Review... and i got 590 for my writing section, assuming that i got 9/12 in my essay.

is there a book which specialises in the proof readig bit of the SAT? cuz i think i need around 100-200 more to improve my overall score. ><"

You mean sentence correction? Do you have the other PR book too, the overall review guide, or just the practice test book? The Cracking the SAT book has grammar rules and help in sentence correction strategies/methods.

Yep, I meant sentence correction... please excuse my use of language, lol.

I have only got the old Craking the SAT book, and the book with 11 SAT tests. I hope by doing more tests will help me improve my scores... I really can't be bothered to get another book. SAT books are extremely SCARCE in England.

giv as many sat practice tests as possible
