I'm not much of a reader. English has never been my top subject. Did any of you score 700+ on the CR section but share a similar situation to me? I just can't see my vocab or reading skills increasing within a couple months before I retake the SAT. I only plan to study for the CR section. I'm currently sitting at a 570 for the CR and hoping to raise it to a 700+ :(.

bump.......

i got a 570 as well

I got a 680 despite my numerous brainfarts....all I have to say, as the others would say, don't overthink the questions. Just answer it according to the context in the reading. As for S completion, just review large lists of words, or possibly read the dictionary if you want to (still not sure if I will continue that, on letter F right now). Even then, 90% of the time the sentence can be figured out by using context clues. If you can withstand reading those long passages and answering several questions on them, you should get at least a 700 (the curve is easier for CR, I think 3 wrong and you can still get an 800. )

Hey EISD I was in the exact same situation as you were! I was sitting on a low 600 before I raised it to a 730, which I am very happy with. The only thing I did in between was to study my vocab, and practice for the AP English Language exam, which is a lot harder. I think by doing the hard questions you will then find the SAT to be very simple--as most answers are given in the passage; you only need to find them. Another thing is, try to read quickly so you actually will get to finish.

i've been doing CR practice tests and i usually make 2-3 mistakes and omit 8 questions(run out of time before i'm able to do the last 2-3 questions in each of the CR sections). All i was trying to do was answer the questions-without reading the entire passage. And i found that it was a terrible idea. I would panic because i knew i was running out of time and i had only answered a few of the questions, and then my brain would freeze completely.

So i knew i had to change my strategy. This afternoon i decided to read the passage before answering the questions- SOO much easier. All i had to do for each question was go to the line that was referenced- and it didn't even take 20 seconds to figure out each of the answers because i had already read the entire passage thoroughly. I got 1 wrong in each section(3 total- one of them was a sentence completion question) and i had like 4 minutes left to go over my work-for each section.

So read the passage thoroughly(as quickly as possible. but dont rush- and dont worry about time-it doesn't take up time at all), and THEN answer the questions.
