Crappy Ivy

They are all great schools. Why waste time dissecting minimal differences in quality between them?

Yes, Brown kicked a$$ at football this year. We won both Harvard and Cornell so far. Maybe more. I've only been to two games.
And I find it pointless to compare Ivies, especially pointing out how crappy some are. These people are either absurdly ignorant or sadly jealous.

modestmelody, I loved the wasp term. I took it as white anglosaxon protestant. It was a term I learned in 8th and freshman year of highschool hah.

BrownParent: You're being unnecessarily harsh on Sukotto; I think you are the only one who misunderstood Sukotto's OP. It was a legitimate question because I've heard the same thing. Are all Brown parents as arrogant as you?

Haha talk about overreacting

hahah modestmelody, i loved that sum up. but i think people are taking this post a little too seriously. wow, i mean, just because they're all great schools, doesn't mean they can't be compared to each other. haha just chill out a bit
i will go ahead and rank the ivies as well, according to my learnings:
harvard
princeton
yale
penn
dartmouth
columbia
brown
cornell (by far lol)

and among them, brown is still my first choice, even though i'm applying to harvard, princeton, and penn too.

Comparing institutions and making a judgment on relative overall quality are two different things.

One amounts to a meaningful result and the other does not.

Chicago and Brown, like you said, are pretty much polar opposites. However, they're both my top choices.. Good observation.

What makes Brown a crappy Ivy? Its higher acceptance rate compared to other Ivies? Its "low" ranking? I would think that people who are interested in Brown would not go nuts over these numbers. Part of the reason why I am applying is that I think fixation over these numbers is just superficial. The only reason I would care about Brown's acceptance rate is that higher numbers would mean that I am more likely to be admitted and relieve my anxiety.

And please stop ranking the Ivies from best to worst!

People are going to rank the Ivies no matter what anyone says. It's in our nature to compare and contrast.
But it is ludicrous what people base their judgements on.

totally off topic but in the summer after freshman year, i visited brown and did like a session thing with a brown faculty (i don't remember because i was sleepy).

i sat at the very front row in a room full of parents and kids who were very interested in brown. it was about 35 minutes long and i just slept with my head down so everyone saw me (remember i am sitting in the very front row with the brown spokesperson only 10 ft away). when the session was over, i woke up and everyone looked at me as if i were insane.

I hope more people think this is a crappy ivy...fewer people applying=better chance of getting in

I don't know raiderade. My GC said that there have been people in my school who applied to every single Ivy. Those type of people probably looked down on Brown as a safety/crappy Ivy. taking chances away from people who really want Brown. But at least on CC, it looks like most people who apply to Brown appreciate it for what it is, not merely for its prestige.

That's what I can't understand about all of college admissions. I like Brown for its really unique program and I actually wish it was less prestigious so I would have a better chance of being accepted. So many people only want a school because it is hard to get into which makes so little sense.

I agree. Some people want to apply for the sweatshirt, but don't think about the features of the school that makes it attractive.

I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Although brown is my dream school and I cant imagine WHY anyone would think it is crappy in any way, some people will, perhaps out of spite, or perhaps out of ignorance. Leave them be and let them think what they like. Less people apply to brown increases my chances of getting in :)

nope corniez and dartiez are the crap of the iviez

Haha there is no such thing as a crappy Ivy! Although I would not go to any Ivy but Brown <3

this thread is making me want to take a huge crap
