Crappy Ivy

God, I despise the trophy hunters who apply to every single Ivy just for the hell of it. I actually despise them and wish unfortunate things upon them. They have given my school a pretty bad reputation among some college admissions people because we have so many students like that. They apply just to see if they can get in without any regard to anyone but themselves and their egos.

/end rant.

Sadly, it's true
There is a large number of people who apply to ALL of the ivies because, well, they are ivies. They dont care about the specifics of the shcool they go to, just that it is IVY. God, I hate that term.
And then there's the whole "little ivy" schools.
the "ivy league" is an athletic conference!!!!!!!!!!

hehe, sorry, i just get frustrated with those people =]

Umm...my list goes as follows:
Cornell
Brown
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Columbia
Dartmouth

It has nothing to do with the fact that I am applying early to Cornell or that I am applying to Brown.

My point is that people who go to Ivies will always say that their school is not the worst, so something like this is really biased.

OP: ""I've heard a few times that Brown is the "Crappy Ivy", which besides being kind of an oxymoron, is just a little offensive.. Anyone want to comment on why they call it this, or other reactions, etc?""

Ah yes. But much like the 'ugly supermodel', she still attracts more attention than the model in the local Macy's circular.

Geez this thread is vicious! There is no such thing as a crappy Ivy. The thing is, every Ivy has something that really attracts a certain student, and then that student will say that their favorite school is the best. For instance, I visited Yale, Brown, Harvard and Dartmouth.... Yale was nice and I (personally) disliked Harvard. There's nothing wrong with either one, they just didn't strike me the way I would want the college I go to to strike me. Anyway, I applied to Dartmouth ED and Brown is my second choice. There is nothing wrong with Brown, I just feel like Dartmouth is where I am meant to be. And whoever said Dartmouth is the worst is wrong. Because I said so :)

Damn straight.

Does anybody else get deja vu after reading a thread like this?

I feel like this type of thread pops up all the time. The conversation also seems to follow along the same path too.

-School X is the ***** of da Ivy league!
-*** You talkin 'bout son?
-Whoever told you that must be straight trippin!
-Yo dawg, why you got to be hatin?
-Big love for all y'all schools. We're all amazin' in our own way! Ya heard?
-**** DARTMOUTH YO! BROWN MIGHT BE **** COLORED BUT DARTMOUTH IS DIARRHEA GREEN! F*** CoRNeLL TOO!
-TRU DAt. At least we can all agree that Cornell SUX!
-COrnELL is da sheet! I like choze it over a school you wouldn't have expected me to!
-THis thread needs to end like now!
-Yeah son, we should end this!
-PENN IS OVERRATED
-Yeah, let's end this.
-I be lovin' my school (fa-reals) kno-matta what y'all say.

My apologies for the harsh language. I don't know why I visualize you all to be inner-city kids.

hahahahahaha sooooo true

Hahahahaha

traditionally, it's harvard, princeton, yale--1, then dartmouth--2, then brown, columbia, penn--3, then cornell --4, but it really depends on what you want to study. I have never heard anyone else refer to dartmouth or brown as "crappy ivies" (or iviez for that matter). it really seems like the op is simply out to cause trouble or has no idea what she's talking about.

I think the OP was just trying to sort "the facts" out, innocently haha. But I guess, like everyone else said it really just depends on where your loyalty lies. I love Brown because of it's open curriculum - NO matter the rank (hahaha, cheesy).

"Cornell is really just a land-grant public school in NYS!"

Cornell is not public. Its a university with public colleges. Whats wrong with being a public institution anyway? My parents pay taxes... I should be able to pay 18-20k a year (even if I had to pay full tuition, CU would be my first choice by far!)

Failure for complete inability to recognize clear and obvious irony/tongue-in-cheekness in a post that states explicitly it's not serious.

Haha no I'm not trying to cause trouble! I'm trying to explain why people have different opinions. And my bit about Dartmouth at the end was a joke. A little bit of fun to lighten the mood in this thread. Sorry ehoss!

Oops... OP means original post. Haha nevermind then... ; )

haha no i actually agree with you original.peace! I've just seen this same post from oprah on a couple of other ivy boards & maybe she's trying sort out her facts, but it just doesn't seem like she's trying to make friends by saying your dream school is the crap of the ivies

^^though I have a very hard time considering "crap of the ivies" an insult

lol, the truth of the matter is that if you're not from HYP, ur just making yourself look like a pretentious fool by flaunting your ivy status. apart from HYP (and possibly penn, cuz of wharton), the rest of the "ivies" aren't as hyped as you CC'ers make them out to be, in the national scale and even more so in the international scale. in fact, the world's view of the ivy league consists only of harvard, yale, princeton, and stanford.
so stop with all these silly comparison of ivy league schools and just go wherever your heart desires. no need to be chasing prestige unless ur good enough for HYPS. simple as that.

Everyone knows the Ivy doesn't have ranks, it has tiers!

Top Tier: Harvard, Yale, Princeton
Next Best: Columbia, Penn
Mid Tier: Brown, Dartmouth
Crappy Ivy: Cornell

Seriously, Cornell is the only Ivy which I have regularly heard defined as "the crappy one"

You forgot Berkeley.

And I'm happy here in India because Penn is more well-known than Princeton. Bless those Indian preprofessional hearts!

Who cares what 'the world' thinks of our schools. Many international education systems value how much research the professors do over the value provided to the student.

That's why 'the world' wants to try and get into American colleges!
