Craziest admissions decisions you've seen?

My friend got into Carnegie Mellon (SCS) but not UMCP, which is our flagship school. Anyone heard of or had a weirder situation that that?

how about getting into Brown but not University of Florida? hah

George W. Bush Harvard Business 1972

A friend of mine was accepted at Carnegie Mellon for Engineering but waitlisted at Villanova. Not too shocking but odd nonetheless.

my best friend got waitlisted from richmond, lehigh and and bucknell but got into villanova, bc, holy cross, michgan, maryland (honors) and cornell. she got rejected from dartmouth but she’s going to cornell :)

Someone I know got into Cornell U but not into SDSU. And they chose to go to U Miami Ohio over Cornell. No one is quite sure how they got into Cornell…

I know some who was accepted to Harvard, but waitlisted at Northwestern. Not super odd, I guess, but perhaps a little…

not exactly the craziest, but friend who was rejected from berkeley got into MIT with a near-full scholarship

I was just accepted for transfer to Cornell with a full scholarship, and waitlisted at UMaryland. Lol.

One of my classmates has been accepted into Cornell, but rejected at ASU, our local State University! He is native American, so perhaps that helped at Cornell. For what reasons ASU found to reject him, iv no idea…

-In at Princeton, but not Penn
-My brother got into Wharton, but waitlisted at Northwestern

here is real crazy one from someone I know:

In at Lehigh but rejected at Univ. of Redlands…

In at Harvard, rejected at Florida State University.

^Is that legit? Cuz that’s beyond crazy

IM, it is going to be hard to beat that Harvard/FS combination

A classmate of mine got into University of Portland, and although she was rejected from the Air Force Academy, she’s been promised a spot if other’s appointments aren’t accepted.

However, she never received an acceptance letter from a local university where acceptance was based solely on standardized test scores and grades. She’s sixth in our class, and has been taking dual credit classes there for two years.

A few years ago, my mother was accepted to Tufts and Columbia for graduate school, but rejected from the University of New Hampshire (our state school).

She went to Tufts with an 85% scholarship, and received her PhD in Public Health last year.

Yes, the Harvard/FSU one was legit. She graduated a year ago, and I don’t know her well, so I don’t know the exact circumstances. I know that Harvard was the only Ivy League school she got into (rejected at all others). She thinks it’s because she attended their summer program.

I don’t get why she didn’t get into FSU. Craziness.

Following on from #17: a while back (read “twenty years”) my mother applied to U of Arizona’s PhD Chem E program and was rejected. Apparently they felt her academics were not up to par.

So instead she went to Caltech :)

^^Dang the Harvard/FSU one was really weird. Attending the Harvard summer thing doesn’t help that much…
