Craziest College Classes

This subject about ridiculously obscure classes came up on the Core Curriculum thread, but I think it's fun enough to dedicate an entire thread.

What is/are the craziest college course(s) you have heard of?

For those of you in college or grads:
What's the craziest your school has to offer?
What's the craziest you've taken? Was it worth it, or was it a goofy waste of time?

I found this list, by the way:

mental_floss Blog 12 College Classes We Wish Our Schools Had Offered

I especially like the one about Far Side. I've got a "365 days of Far Side" calendar in my room :)

Interesting.

BTW, if you scroll down to the bottom of the webpage and check the comments, you'll see one that left me in absolute stitches at Arizona State:

Puppetry. Not marionettes or ventriloquism, but hardcore finger puppets, sock puppets, and paper bag puppets.

I took a freshman seminar called “The History of Chocolate.” Taste-tests included! Best class I ever took, ever.

This one sounds delicious.

I have a friend who teaches at a college and her college actually offers a course called "Swashbuckling 101" (like you know, you learn how to fake sword fight on stage?). And they offer a 201 course as well! For credit!!!

Lori I was going to mention that..lol Wine tasting has to be it .( Cornell)

Star Wars, I think. At some public out west.

We have a class where they discuss all the hidden innuendos in Disney movies =P.

I'm not sure if we still have it, but I know we had a wine tasting class, as well.

I'm in the History of Punk Rock at my school (Rice).

Last semester there was a class about zombies on film.

I hear there used to be an economics of gambling class.

these all sound so interesting...

I wonder how you pass/fail in wine tasting??
"where is this wine from?
Italy or France?
Italy..??
WRONG!!!"

There's also a great list here: http://www.collegedegree.com/library/college-life/top-25-strangest

"The Art of Walking", anyone? How about "Mail Order Brides"?

When I was at UCD all those many years ago they offered wine tasting, but you were supposed to spit it out. (But then again, UCD also offers degrees in wine making, so it didn't seem all that weird.) The class I really wanted to take was tractor driving. Unfortunately, the prereq was tractor mechanics. And both were offered at 8am Saturdays.

Strangest class I ever took wasn't supposed to be strange, but...my Money & Banking class (Economics) was taught by a confirmed Marxist.

The Comparative Media Studies program at MIT has a bunch of interesting ones. Last year there was one about pro wrestling. This year there's one about soap operas. There's one that's going to be offered every other year on video game theory and analysis. And then there's the lit department's ever-popular science fiction & fantasy class. The art & architecture department has seminars in public art.

I didn't go in for any of the really obscure ones. Probably the most obscure class I took was fMRI and High-Level Vision, which was a fantastic class.

Well, it's not a UG class, but UConn is the only place in the country to offer a Master's in Puppetry.

In terms of UG classes, Oberlin has some REALLY crazy ones.

Well, as an Oberlin student, I can testify about our crazy courses. Let's see, this semester we're offering:

Wrld According to Ren & Stimp
Life & Art of Charlie Chaplin
Mystery Science Theater 3000
Stand-Up Comedy Socl Commentry
Zombie Defnse Traing Practicum
Fundamentals of Rock Climbing

Steel Drum ExCo
Creating your Spiritl Autobiog
Environmental Justice

Those are just a couple of the ExCo (Experimental College) courses being offered this semester, taught by students, for 0 or 1 credits. Some very cool ones this past semester included one on Calvin and Hobbes.

Zombie Defense, huh? Sounds useful :)

This is even more reason to visit Oberlin!!!

Besides Oberlin, what schools have the craziest classes, in your opinion?
