I really want to go to college and study either journalism, classics, or creative writing, so it is really important that I have good ECs that reflect that...Any ideas??????????????????????????????????????????????

Right now all I have is this:
BigBrothers/Bigsisters
Aloha Club
Kiwins
Science Club
Junior Tennis Club
School newspaper (i start this year)

I am thinking about joining Interact club, starting guitar lessons, volunteering at the YMCA, and joining spanish club.......but i really want something that shows how much i love english

Do you have a yearbook club? That would probably also help.

I am in a similar situation... i love creative writing, but none of my ec's reflect that. I have pursued it very extensively on my own, however, and I will focus my essays on this. If you love writing enough, then a lack of a club won't stand in your way.

OMG what should i do next to please colleges??!!! Help!!!! I have no interests of my own, only the interest to get into an ivy league college by being a superficial overachiever!!!!! Does anyone have any more clubs i can possibly join to show my awesome well-roundedness and involvement??!!!

my friend and i are avid volunteers for the american red cross...she loves creative writing too and started a youth newspaper/magazine thing. actually, just start one. anywhere! make a zine....wooooo...

Is there any reason you didn't do newspaper starting your freshmen year? Was there a grade limit, a schedule problem, etc? You could have freelanced or self-auditioned (write a story by yourself and turn it in) your way in if those were the problems...

cheemonkey's adivce is good, but its not uncommon for many "unique" seeking students to abuse the idea. They just start something for their resume, and don't do much with it: for example with the magazine, a student will publish one or two articles now and then and that's it, and make it seem like some huge importance/time consumer in their resume.

yeah, it's only open to 11th and 12th graders... I wouldn't mind starting a magazine though. I sure love reading them :) and writing for one after college has always been a dream of mine. How would you go about starting a 'zine'? People at my school don't exactly like to read, and I'm not sure if I have ever actually seen someone READING the school paper. Thanks a lot for all the input so far :) :) :)
