Is anyone in the Dodge Film major creative producing? It is for people who want to be writer/producers. I would love to hear from people who are in the major. Also,is it as competitive to get into as the film production major?

Here’s one of their older threads. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/chapman-university/648807-status-creative-producing-bfa-program.html
Creative Producing is one of their newer majors and I believe their first graduating class will be in 2014. Keep in mind that all film majors at Dodge are competitive because of smaller class sizes. The Production major actually has more students, but because it has more students applying to production, it seems harder to get in.

If you would like more information about the program, go to their web page. [BFA in Producing | Creative Producing Degree Program | Chapman University](<a href=“Page Not Found | Chapman University”>Page Not Found | Chapman University)

Also, you should check out their facebook page to get connected.

Hope this helps.

We went to Dodge yesterday and had a great tour. My D is looking at the TV program or the creative producing program. Right now with creative producing being the newest major its admit rate is about 55 percent. TV is about 45 percent. Anyone who wants film production is at about 19 percent admit. So, it seems there is a good chance that this could be a possible option for us. I really liked what I saw, but not sure how we would pay for it.

The Dodge tour blew my son’s socks off last year and he’s now an extremely happy freshman. Have you looked into Chapman’s generous merit awards? If your daughter’s stats are good, she may qualify. You can check it out and get a decent estimate of her eligibility on Chapman’s netprice calculator. It asks for GPA and SAT/ACT scores and estimates the award. Chapman has its own formula for calculating GPA (they award weighted scores for AP but NOT for Honors courses), so it may vary somewhat when the rubber hits the road, but the NPC is remarkably close.
~Best of luck~

P.S. We met a creative producing major (a senior) at orientation week last month. We talked to her for about an hour. She loved the major and was involved in multiple, exciting projects (including a senior thesis that involved a collaborative film/animation piece). She was doing (I believe) her third industry internship. We were impressed. :)

She has only descent grades. She is overly involved in theater/choir/theater production stuff. SHe has a lot of APs so that is good. But, her math/science is the problem she is a creative person not a math person.

Thank you so much for posting the information about detailed acceptance rates inside the Dodge programs. I have been trying to find that information everywhere. My daughter was accepted for the Dodge Film Summer Academy and is dead set on applying to Chapman Dodge. Unfortunately she only has an UW 3.4 GPA and ACT 25 so we are resigned to the fact that she might not get accepted.

She’s interested in the Creative Producing major so maybe the higher acceptance rates for that program will help. Also, she obviously is going to have good letters of recommendation from the professors she worked with during the Summer Academy.

She was told that the acceptance rate for students who have attended the Summer Academy is 80%. But, Chapman’s star is rising and you never know how many excellent applicants they will get this year. She’s working on the essays now! Wish us luck.

Only 30 Dodge College Creative Producing spots were available in the fall 2012:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/chapman-university/1346855-more-2012-dodge-freshman-class-statistics.html

I would defiantly go to the film school section of College Confidential and find other Colleges to apply for with this major. It may be difficult for your daughter to get in with her grades and test score. Now is the time to be proactive and make a list of acceptable colleges to apply to because applications need to go in by early November.

All the best to you and your D in these efforts.

That is wierd cause on our tour they said 65 percent of applying students were admitted to that major this fall. They figured about a 55 percent chance for 2013. Also, the application is due in November for film production all the others are due in January.

I’m referring to the percent that were accepted to Creative Producing major since that is the one we were interested in…not all of Dodge…They also said not to worry about GPA it is hardly a factor…they are looking strongly at the students creativity, ECs the essays, etc. they said anyone with a 3.0 has a chance of getting in…we were just there last month and talked to two different people in the Dodge Admissions office so I think your daughter has just as good of a chance as anyone else depending on what she has in her supplimentals

This is from my notes from our tour:

Admit rates:

17 % for film production
20% for screenwriting
40% for TV production
65% for creative producing.

Criteria: number 1-Talent based admission…not academic based…looking for talent, creativity, good fit for a hands-on program. IF they think the person will be successful and excel it their program. Supplementals, recommendation letter, ECs etc.
2- Strong academics is a plus. But not primary basis for admission.
3- GPA minimum for consideration 3.0
4/ SAT no minimum

The admit rates will get harder because program is increasing in popularity. Creative Producing will change to about 55 % admit for Fall 2013.

I hope this helps. I would have a back up plan. but, I think she has a good chance. My daughter has about the same GPA because she is horrible at math and has some low grades in Math. I talked with them specifically about this and they were very encouraging. SO YES apply. If they said 80 percent of the students in the summer program get in then I would think she has a great chance…just make sure she has other options of course.

Hi Bassettmomma,

It is a good thing you posted for you are mistaken about the submit date for Dodge College. You stated Also, the application is due in November for film production all the others are due in January.

From the Chapman U website:

[FAQs | Undergraduate Admissions | Chapman University](<a href=“Page Not Found | Chapman University”>Chapman University (redirect))

Deadlines for Freshmen

Early Action- November 1

All Dodge majors need to apply by this date to be considered for admission.
We also recommend that any other talent majors (Theater, Art, Music and Dance) apply by this deadline as well. Students applying for audition-based majors within the College of Preforming Arts must audition by December 1 in order to be considered for our Early Action deadline. If your audition is not completed or received by December 1st, your application will be put in to the pool with our Regular Decision candidates. Please refer to the COPA Department specific requirements for more information.

Regular Decision- January 15

Anyones best chance for getting into Chapman U is through Early Action. Our Child was already accepted at Dodge College (into a non film production major) by January. The film production majors are notified normally around March (the professors need the time to review all of the video submissions) while all other Dodge Majors are notified in January & February. If you apply in January instead of November your chances of getting in have been reduced by 80%.

I am glad I got this post to you in time Bassettmomma.

We are applying early action but they don’t have to apply until January. I talked to Dodge College twice and the admissions office at Chapman also and they all said only if you are doing film production. The website has conflicting information some places in says Dodge college due Nov 1 and some say film producing. The tour people said only film producing and so did their admissions office. But, we are applying by Nov 1 anyway because as I said my daughters grades are not stellar and we want to have a better chance of getting in. We have a lot of schools on are list that are for sure admits like Columbia College in Chicago. Colorado Film school and a few CSUs so I am not too worried. If she gets in that is great but we have at least 6 other schools and a few that are good safeties.

But if they really are due November 1st they are going to have a lot of problems since their tour guides and admissions office told me in person and with a follow up phone call that it is only film production- There was a whole group on our tour that would have been misinformed plus anyone that called them.

This is from the Chapman website;

Early Action (Freshmen, non-binding): November 1, 2012
Please note: This is the deadline for all Early Action application materials. Also, the last acceptable testing date for Early Action consideration is early November, so if applying by the Early Action deadline the last date to test is the November sitting.

FILM PRODUCTION candidates must apply by this deadline. Please refer to Dodge College’s department-specific requirements for more information.

This is in one part of their website and the other is the one you copied that says ALL Dodge is due NOV 1.

This is under the actual CREATIVE PRODUCING major details:

All documents (including the department supplement) must be uploaded to The Common Application by the given deadlines. Late applications are only reviewed on a space available basis. Undergraduate deadlines (including international students) are as follows:

FOR SPRING 2013:

Regular Admission: October 15

FOR FALL 2013:

Freshman Early Action (non-binding): November 1
Freshman Regular Admission: January 15
Transfer Regular Admission: March 15

As you can see there is a lot of conflicting info out there…best to just turn it in by NOV 1.

Yes. Turning in the application by November 15th is critical in having a chance to get in. Most of all the spots are given out with the applications that are received for an Early Action decisoion. I had confirmed this fact on numerous occasions back in summer and fall of 2011.
