Wait-listers should definitely hang in there; I also think there is much overlap among applicants. My son got in to Iowa and UVA again; he’ll choose Iowa this year. He would have gone back to Kenyon if they allowed you to! He had a fantastic experience there last year (see my other posts). I can tell you that he solely worked on creative writing–no academic writing, just poetry, short story, some horror, lots of fictional sketches.

My Iowa letter came in the mail today… I got accepted! :D

Ahh Iowa!!! Okay guys, help… Iowa vs. UVA. which would help me more with improving my writing??

Congrats to everyone who will be attending Sewanee, UVA, or Iowa! Those of you on the waitlists, never despair and good luck!

Iowa today. Now I have to decide, Kenyon or Iowa??

^ Iowa. Any day. Any time.

But Idaho, and still have yet to see a letter at all. I’m hoping that means I have a larger envelope coming but one can’t get their hopes to high, can they? :D

Uh oh…kansasmom’s post has made me doubt my decision. Anyone else have insights on the pros/cons of Kenyon vs. Sewanee?

I wish I had heard of this site/thread before…My daughter is a sophomore, and just applied to 3 programs - bard college at simon’s rock, kenyon, and iowa - we basically flew blind based on random hearsay - she has been accepted into kenyon (session 1) and bard, and rejected at iowa - I am seeing great stuff about Kenyon, but how is the bard experience, anyone??

I’m one of the alternates for session 2 at Iowa and was waitlisted at Kenyon…

I just sent my withdrawal for Iowa and Kenyon since I was accepted to both but just confirmed my place in another program.

Don’t lose hope waitlistees!

My daughter is excited about going to IOWA (freshman). Does anyone have any recommendation about teachers? Thanks.

Waggish;

If you don’t mind my asking, what program are you attending?

Regarding FullmoomMom’s comment “we basically flew blind based on random hearsay”…

It seems like many of us are in similar situations. I have searched, but have found relatively little in the way of descriptions of actual experiences by past attendees.

Perhaps those who attend a summer writing program this summer can write a brief review of their experience on this thread upon completion of the program so next summer, there is more information upon which to base decisions on where to attend.

Waggish- which sessions were you accepted to?

raschu - I agree completely. Any past-attendees out there - please post your experiences - this is the first time my daughter will be away from home (from West Coast, too) so, I am somewhat anxious about her going so far - please spell out any do’s and dont’s!! And for my part, I will nag my daughter into posting her experiences :)

@earthandsky: I’m withdrawing from Iowa session 2 so you might get my spot! (my parents will only let me go to UVA because it’s closest to home >< ) but anyhow, good luck!!

also, waggish…if you don’t mind my asking (since I saw your posts in other threads)…what happens if you make it into tasp? will you attend that?

@bookends: that would be cool! i hear UVA has a GREAT program, unfortunately by the time I decided I wanted to do a pre-college program, the application due date had already passed, but that’s awesome! and congrats on getting into iowa :)

I was accepted to session 2 of both programs.

Today I sent in my confirmation to attend the dramatic writing program at the NYU Tisch Summer High School Program. I’m receiving a full scholarship to attend; super excited!

As awesome as 4 free weeks in NYC sounds though, I have to say that I’m definitely going to withdraw from NYU if I get in to TASP.

Waggish;

Congratulations to you. I just looked at the program online and it looks very interesting.

Still nothing.

Then again, haven’t gotten a chance to check the PO Box in two days. It’s awhile away from the house and I lack the license my mother doesn’t.
