i was accepted into the uva writing camp because i applied on a whim. the choice right now is that i have a vacation planned or i can attend the camp. what have been some experiences of people who have attended the camp before?

I’ve received late acceptance to the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio! Can’t wait to see everyone there. :)

To any of those attending Iowa Session One, what teacher did you end up with? I’m growing increasingly nervous and excited, and I feel as though it would set me at ease to know anyone else with the same teacher I have. I was also wondering (though I’m not sure who would know this) if each teacher has a relatively small class. The email that my teacher sent to me was only sent to about nine or ten other students. Is that it, or do you think she sent out a couple different emails?

beautifyyourname- How did you receive late acceptance to Iowa? I thought that Iowa did not have a waitlist. Nevertheless, congratulations and I’m sure you will have a great summer! I was rejected from Iowa, but I’m excited to be heading to Kenyon for Session II this summer.

Anyone apply to anything yet?

My D is wanting to do a summer program in creative writing, so I’m hoping this thread will become active again for summer of 2013. Any insight from those of you who have done a summer program in the past would be much appreciated. She is a junior this year.

I hope she is already applying as Iowa’s deadline has pasted and Kenyon and UVA’s deadlines are coming up March 1st! I did not look up the dates for any others. My son went to Iowa a couple of years ago and he loved it! Also, as a parent I thought it was a good taste for him of how being away at college was going to feel. He was a raising senior when he went.

good luck!

I know several writers who’ve attended Duke Creative Writers’ Workshop-- it’s the smaller program for older high schoolers that runs alongside the much larger Young Writers Camp. Lots of freedom for campers to write whatever they want, even though the rigorous expectations-- and the talent pool-- usually result in prolific and high level output. They fly under the radar without the competitive admissions or flashy website, but they’re one of the older summer writing programs for teens!

I’m applying for Sewanee. I’m hoping to send some apps in for a few more, but I’ve got band camp most of July and the International Trombone Festival is mid-June, so I’ve got a limited time range to work with.

Did anyone apply to Iowa this year?

Scotty

I’ve applied to Iowa, Sewanee, and Kenyon. So unbelievably anxious to hear back!

Thanks to Cal1983 telling us about the March 1st deadlines, my D is finishing up her applications to Kenyon, UVA and Sewanee today. THANKS, Cal1983! We found out this week that she is also in the final rounds of consideration for admission to our state’s Governor School for this summer, but we won’t find out if she gets in that until mid-April. If she does get in one of these competitive writing programs, I’m hoping they won’t make us pay the full tuition until we know about Gov School (which is free!) If she doesn’t get in to any of the above, we also like the looks of the Duke program. Does anyone know any others besides Duke that doesn’t require the application process?

I applied to UVA, Interlochen, Kenyon, Ithaca and Reynolds. Super nervous about judgement day, March 25th! Good luck to everyone! :]

I applied to UVA, Kenyon, and Iowa. Best of luck to all!

My daughter applied to Iowa, Kenyon & Sewanee. Iowa did not send a confirmation letter (for application received) like the others did. Should we be worried? Or does Iowa just not bother? The anticipation…!

@Cardinal, don’t worry–Iowa does not send out any notification of application reception.

Got into Ithaca! The ten day countdown for the rest of them start tomorrow. Iowa sends out their acceptances on March 25th from what I know. Oh the nervvvvves.

According to their webpage, Iowa will send out their decision letters via email on April 1, 2013.

My daughter applied to kenyon, sewanee, Iowa and the university of Virginia. Got in sewanee, UVA has asked her to consider being placed on the three week program and she is still waiting to hear from Iowa and Kenyon. The question I have is, which of the above is the best writing program and does anyone have sons/daughters that have attended any of the above and what was the experience like? Thank you
