Creative writing.

Several top notch schools offer creative writing problems. Since I plan to major in an area involving a similar program, i was curious, (once again) as to how Stanford's program compared to other closesly ranked schools. Obviously such programs differ and vary in their own ways, but to your personal preference and knowledge, which school has the best?

Thankyou for taking the time to read.

i'm actually curious about this too. how does stanford's creative writing compare with, say princeton or columbia? both princeton and columbia have amazing programs- princeton especially. seriously, tony morrison will be your professor there. drool

Ya, lol, now THAT would be cool. Ive heard a lot about the Princeton program, never anything bad. So right now, Im leaning towards Princeton. I can't be entirely sure It's better though, until I hear from someone whos experienced Stanford's program. Any takers?

Has anyone taken this program from a different location? I know this is the Stanford page, but any information helps.

Be careful about choosing your school based on which college has the best program in your potential major. You should be sure that it has a strong program in your major and that students don't hate the program, but if that is indeed the case I would advise you to choose your school based on the overall experience. Also, on a somewhat related note, a famous name doesn't necessarily mean a great prof. Morrison might very well be an incredible prof, I have no way of knowing, but if possible talk to students about the qualify of profs in your major instead of just looking for well known profs if you want to get a sense of what your experience will be like.

Well in that case, based on personal preference in programs, and in proffessors, what is the best?

I think having Tobias Wolff as an instructor at Stanford would be as amazing as having Toni Morrison at Princeton. It seems that any of the aforementioned schools would provide one with an extroardinary education, though.

Thanks Fourstar, and I agree, I think that any of them would make for a great year, and future for that matter... I just wish I knew someone thats experienced one of the programs firsthand....Has anyone ever tried one or perhaps known somebody whos erudite in the area? Thanks again

Gosh. Haven't ANY of you seen Orange County?
