Checking accounts don’t build credit. And I don’t think it’s good that your parents are using your name to open lines of credit, assuming they’ve been responsible with it though it might be okay. Generally that’s kind of risky. :(

To check what credit cards and accounts are listed on your report you should see your free credit report. It will generally tell you what bank accounts you have open, the student loans you have, and credit cards (including number of months you’ve paid on time and in full).

AbbyP: I don’t believe that it’s supposed to, but it seemed to really help with me, as I got over the normal limit without anything else on my credit report beside a checking and savings account.

It’s not my mom opening an account in my name, it’s literally a copy of one of my mom’s credit cards (same number, comes on the same bill) just with my name on it. My brothers have them, too. I know for a fact that she always pays the full amount, not the minimum, on time because the bill detracts automatically from her checking.

I tried checking my credit but I cannot as I am still a minor… for ten more days. D*mn.

having a checking account help but doesnt secure a credit card. I applied for a US Bank Student Visa at first I got rejected but then two weeks later I went to the mail box and got it. Though the no history crap sucks I have applied for credit at Best Buy and Wal-Mart to get my laptop but to no avail. IDK how they want us to have credit if we are not giving a chance :P

Update: I was declined for the Citi Forward card for “The consumer reporting agency serving your area has reported a limited credit history for you.”

The Citi Forward card isn’t really for college students or at least not a card to start with.

Ah, oh well. Too good to be true I guess. Any other suggestions for cards that require little/no credit history?
