I'm with Icarus here. The building of a credit history during college will help you out later on in life.

I know my parents, Russian immigrants, had it harder when coming to this country because they had no credit history and thus could not get anything but the highest-interest credit cards. And a good car loan? Forgettaboutit!

Does the Citi Platinum Select for students have an inactivity fee? I signed up for one and I got it in the mail the other day, and I probably won't use it except for emergencies and I didn't want to be hurt because of this.

no i'm pretty sure it doesn't (99%) - however, you should use it at least a little each month, to keep it active and so it reports well to credit agencies.

You SHOULD have a credit card in college. You SHOULD NOT use it like free money, because it isn't. Like others have said, use it infrequently. If you use it to buy gas, or out to dinner one night with friends off campus, you'll be fine, and build your credit.

Visa has a good card for college students, you might wanna check out there website. I don't think getting a credit card is the best idea though, maybe get a job and have your parents or someone lend you the money.
