College board says that UT Austin accepts the AP physics mechanics exam to gain credit for phys303k, but only if you get a three. I'm surprised how low of a score is required and was wondering of the minimum score to gain credit was higher for engineering majors

*at least a three.

303K is already designated as engineering physics. If you get a 3, you can petition that credit and that class will get checked off plain and simple. I’m not sure why it’s so low though. The entering freshmen class will be one of the largest in history due to an abnormally high applicant yield. This would normally be compensated for by creating more classes but due to recent budget cuts (see other thread), it’s possible that they’ve cut costs by just giving credit for the class. Physics has limited use to many engineers (too theoretical) anyway, and in the past a lot of engineers got rid of physics at a community college.
