Credits from other colleges

Is there any way to pass over the basic Calc. course at Chicago? I already took Multivar. at North Central College and Diff. EQ at COD, and it seems like a waste of money to repeat those courses at UofC, including honors calc. This way, I can skip straight to the basic algebra/analysis stuff.

Typically, the first (other than some online language tests) placement test during orientation week is the calculus placement test. The test determines where one goes in math and science. This year's test was at 1 PM Sunday afternoon and lasted over 3 hours, all after moving in on Saturday.

So...no, I can't simply be excused from these classes?

I believe you may be able to place out of calculus and get transfer credit as long as your placement test indicates you warrant it.

I honestly wouldn't say that it would be a waste of money to do the honors calc class at U of C. I've heard math majors (and whizzes) crying about their midterms. I'm not in the 160s sequence, but I do believe its considered a basic analysis class.

Honestly though, you'll take a placement test the second day of orientation. If UofC determines your math level is up to par, you won't have to worry about Calculus and you'll join something like the 20 first years to test out of Calc.

In that case, I'll have to study up...it seems like eons since I've done that stuff (amazing how quickly one forgets it).

Is the test overnight, or is it administered in a sequestered room?

And what about AP credits? I just read something that said that a five on the BC merits higher placement.

Also, can anyone send me an example of the test? As you can probably tell, I'd REALLY like to take the analysis course - I hear Prof. Sally is a hoot.

The exam is given in one setting the second day of orientation. You may want to see this: http://collegecatalog.uchicago.edu/credit/index.shtml
