<p>Our girl is considering attending UNCC. Her SAT scores are well-above the school's average. We wonder if the reported SAT average of the university's average score of 1500 will challenge her enough (by sub-par teachers). We're also quite fearful of the high crime around the university. We took a trip to the campus. It is quite attractive with new buildings and beautiful gardens, but the surrounding area is quite a put-off. It seems to be located in the middle of a ghetto. She won't have an automobile, so she will need to leave campus to tend to personal activities (shopping, personal grooming, etc.), so we're quite apprehensive about sending her there. <p>What is stated therein is NOT pretty. Does anyone have knowledge of this school? We visited the school last summer but were quite worried about the surrounding area and the orientation's inability to convince us that there were enough activities on-campus to keep our girl on-campus. It seems that most head to the downtown areas to the bars on weekends.</p>

<p>We were hoping that UNCC would have equal prestige with UNC-Chapel hill, But from a logistical point of view, it can't compare.</p>

<p>lol! What makes you think that the profs will be subpar? I bet they got SATs that were higher than the now-equivalent 1900.</p>

<p>I read a webpage of the minutes of a meeting of a university wide faculty meeting. There was discussion of high turnover among faculty and the comparative low pay scale. I think that there’s a correlation between the low pay and the teachers who stay for 25+years. </p>

<p>Can anyone comment about the crime around UNCC? 54 months of crime maps doesn’t instill much confidence.</p>

Hey, about a month too late sorry. There is ZERO crime on campus. As for off campus, the school cant really control that but the area is pretty nice within a few miles. I dont think the campus is any worse than what you would find at other metro-universities.
