criminal/public

im just wondering…do colleges look at your criminal/public record before admissions?? do they look at everyones? or just a few students who seem “suspicious”…im jw bc ive been hearin rumors lately about perfect students rejected due to their “record”…

For most, if not all, colleges, you're going to need to disclose if you've ever been arrested. I'm looking at Amherst's application right now just as an example, and here's how they word it:

"Have you ever been dismissed, suspended or incurred serious disciplinary action at any school you've attended? Have you ever been arrested for anything other than a traffic violation? If yes to either or both, please send a detailed explanation with your application."

In some cases, if your juvenile record is sealed, I /think/ you don't have to disclose, but honestly, this isn't my area. In any case, yes, you will be asked.

Also, your counselor/teachers might disclose things, especially if it's asked if you've ever been in bad standing at your high school.
