Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program

Hi guys!
I’m interested in the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) and wanted to know if anyone has done the program, is currently doing it, or is applying to it and what your thoughts are on it. Also, how difficult is it to get in and how challenging is the coursework? I also heard that it’s possible to get college credit from the program and was wondering how does that work, if anyone has done that.
Thanks in advance!

I’ve been looking around the web for more info as well, but it’s scarce. I can only tell you that I am a junior in college applying for CLS Russia, and that this is a very competitive program. Apparently 10% of applicants get the scholarship across the board as a general figure, regardless of which language you’re applying for. The coursework is 20 hours a week of formal classroom study which is INSANE, but that’s also why I’m applying. I’ve been taking Russian for two years and by the program’s start I will have completed three. You can get college credit through Bryn Mawr College I think, but most students who actually get the scholarship probably don’t need the credit. I didn’t know about CLS until this year, and already was pretty involved in my Russian studies. I’m guessing that they’re really only looking for students that have a demonstrated commitment to their language already, and not casual students who are simply interested. This is a lot of speculation on my part, but I’m just trying to find out more details like you! Best of luck if you are applying.

Thanks for the information Jacob4815162342! All the best to you too!

@Jacob4815162342 Did you advance to the next round?
