Honestly, I think all it took was practice and review of answers. The sat does not test reading skills! It test reasoning skills, so I got better by practicing. I think that is the best way, by far. I know I can't be alone. Someone back me up? And another thing, the difference between 700 and 800 is like 7 questions. The difference between 600 and 700 is 9 questions. So why would it be easier to raise to 700 than 800? The questions don't change. If anything, you have to focus on the hard questions when you're at 700 (which might make it tough) but when you are at 700 your reasoning abilities are higher so those questions aren't as tough as before. Just a thought; maybe not true, but I thought I would say it.

Hey OP, here are a few stats from the College Board about U Mich just to make you feel confident: the average CR range last year was 580-690, so I think your 750 would be a standout. (Math was 630-730. They aren't reporting the Writing section, which might mean they're not considering it, as some schools still aren't. If you were planning on studying any more for the Writing section--which it sounds like you might not be since you already did well on it--you might want to call the admissions office and find out whether they're looking at it these days.)

Stix2400, you make some very good points. All I know is from my own tutoring experience and from my reading (I try to read as many books as possible about college admissions and SAT prep). I have pretty good luck raising scores into the mid-700s, but those last few points are tough. In my experience, moderate scorers tend to read everything "straight"--for instance, they don't spot irony or pre-emptive arguments--and that usually costs them a few questions.

I'm impressed and curious to hear that you did so well without a lot of reading practice. If there are more top-scorers and non-readers, please post here, satisfy my curiosity and give the OP some good tips!

what about the PR Cracking the SAT book, is that good for CR? or even M or W? thanks
