Critical Reading helpp

i took the SAT in march and didn't do too well on the critical reading. i've been practicing just critical reading sections, but does anyone have suggestions on what more i can do?

thankss

Yea, i'll BUMP this for you..since i also want CR help

i am also in the same situation you guys are in. i havent had much time to study, and i cant memorize vocab right now. i think im just going to take practice critical reading sections from the blue book for a little while until i get the hang of it and figure out what i need to improve on. i got a 600 in critical reading in march, and i just surprised i even did that well considering i had a difficult time with some of the vocabulary used on that test.

what does everyone else suggest??

i have trouble too

aHELP US PLEEEEEEEEEEAAASE!!!!!

Ok, let me help you all guys through this hell.

First thing, memorize the damn(sorry for using too harsh word =p) word lists you have.

Then, attack the question...

Wait, in what ways??

For inference question, look for rephrased sentence for referred lines or specific parts that question asks...I don't have to elaborate on wrong answer patterns..do I???

For general question, if you can read, and have no other thinkings while you are reading, then you will get this right!!

For word question, memorizing words will help you through this..I'm sure everybody will feel happy after reading my reply.

If you have any question on my skills, I usually get 800 on CR in bluebook practice book, and believe me, I just do it..

This is just the standardized test, as Mike Barrett said.

Finding the patterns for right answer is all I have said in upper sentences...

After you find this pattern, and recognize after you practice enough, you could be able to finish the long passage questions(usually 10-15) in 9-12 minutes... If you are able to do this, you could finish one section in 15 minutes..that's a lot...isn't it?? but I did it...

So, good luck with all!!

thanks jamessyhr, that was very useful, i usually make around 5 mistakes in the cr sections... hopefully i can make that 0 by the june test :) . Have you used grammatix for CR, or do you just get 800 naturally?

I used Grammatix, naturally...
I was not good at this test, but, after getting much feedback from Mike Barrett, I got my score, as I want.

So,,=)
Good luck to you, all guys.

CR is all about picking up the context clues in passages and UNDERSTANDING the meaning of words in various contexts. This can help you even if you are somewhat deficient in vocab knowledge.

Passages - just look for a plausible answer (which is also correct)

hey ponann-this may seem like a stupid question but can you elaborate what you mean by context clues?

pattern in CR seen in real tests and from the ones in PR and Kaplan is different. Do you agree? With real tests my son gets 2-3 wrong but with other tests he keeps getting alot more wrong. can anyone confirm this.

Also how is CR section of the Gruber SAT anyone? close to real thing? thanks

I can confirm that easily, because the tests in Kaplan make the student dreadful, and mentally numb. And, PR, it is similar but easy, and somewhat equivocal in answer choices. I got 7 wrongs in those two famous books, then got 2 wrongs in real one.

So, never worry, J mom!

Gruber's method could be applicable in real SAT, but I don't think the tests in this book is that much great, you see?

I just felt numb while reading the passages of this book, so, you already got what I am saying, J mom..

As everybody says, bluebook and online tests at CB are the greatest book, though some online testing formats are radically different from the real one. =p

I think, I answer all your questions,,

thank you so much
I was introduced to grammatix through this thread
it looks like a great approach to beating the SAT

thanks jamesyhr

can someone tell me what grammatix and whos Mike Barret

I think I just repeated this thread.
