Well, for me it is anyway. I just can't seem to improve as much as I'd like to. In math and writing, my score has gone up a lot from practicing, getting help, and taking practice tests. However, whatever I seem to do I still keep getting around that same lousy score for Reading. Right now I am hitting around 530-550...which is not what I want at all, but I don't know what else to do. Those passages confuse me and I don't understand most of the questions. Can anyone (preferably the top CR scorers) tell me what else I can do? I am a rising junior, so I still have a bit of time, but I would really like to improve my score by at least over 100 points. Please help!

Critical reading can be learned. Begin to memorize the "critical/key" words that guide the process. If you learn how to circle the key words and then read from one to another you can score well. It takes a plan and practice. Doing more passages w/o a plan will gain you little in extra points.

GOAL: Deeper understanding.

Sak09, my CR is not improving at the the same rate as math and writing. I'm trying to use the method of writing the correct answer to those I missed or where I guessed. However, even after I read the answer explanations, it still seems like 2 answers are reasonable choices... so, I'm not even sure how to write the correct answer in my own words. I'm also a rising junior and am stuck at around 600 on CR.

I'm a parent and I know that your SAT scores are very important, but just know that in "real life" you will be able to spend your time doing what YOU are good at! My son has the opposite type of brain...he is a junior and keeps getting 780-800 in CR on the practice tests and 580-610 on the math. Each brain is wired differently!

missypie, thanks...but that really doesn't solve my problem.

Three words... practice, practice, practice. Why don't you PM me one of the problems and I'll try to explain what's going on.

Same here, except I'm a rising senior. I can't get past 650 on practice tests.

-_-

I got an 800 on the CR section. It helps me to underline the important parts while I'm reading so I can focus more on the passage. And then when I get to the questions, I already have the important stuff underlined. Like trvsdrlng, you can PM the questions to me and I'll try to help.
