So I'm starting to prepare for the SAT and I have no problem with math or writing. What I mean by this is that I am good at math and can easily learn things I miss and same goes for writing. But I cant handle CR at all. Right now my scores are in the 500 range and I was wondering if you guys could give me some tips or study methods for this. I have heard Princeton Review's Word Smart book has a lot of good vocab which I will check out. But other than that can you help me out?

Thanks
Ruff

PS I'm trying to get into Penn my #1 choice and I have no problem pulling off a 700-800 in math but I just need to boost my CR to get in. Thanks for your help

Hey I have the exact same problem.

Vocab, get your vocab up, try looking at a few of those books, but not too much. The biggest thing you can do is practice tests, and make sure you can see where exactly in the passage the answer is, that will train you to look for the answer to the multiple choice questions in the passage itself, which is your best way to go about it. Some people just try to go for what sounds good, which doesn’t work. Also, read short stories by good authors like George Orwell or E.B. White, and see if you can figure out the main idea, and the meaning of a couple of the harder vocab words from context clues. Make up your own SAT CR questions. I went from 680-ish in practice to 750 on the real thing.

Vocab, Vocab, Vocab, Vocab, Vocab. It’s useful everywhere in life and especially on the SAT.

Practice, Practice, Practice. Learning them isn’t enough. Make sure you can not only recognize their definitions, but be able to use it in your writing and speech.

Next, take as many SATs as possible and REVIEW YOUR MISTAKES. Most ppl don’t.

Thanks guys. Im thinking of just taking more practice tests and studying vocab.

I think it’s imperative that you constantly remind yourself that ALL the answers are in the passage.
