Critical Reading

Is barron's critical reading workbook is helpful?

YES!

It’s really good! Like it’s not exactly like CB’s tests, but it can really boost your score from a 550 to a 600s.

I never tried it! I still strongly suggest just practicing in the BB til you get the hang of it.

Yes, honestly. I was not that good at CR myself. Then one day, something just clicked with me. I finally started scoring 750-800s on every practice test for CR.

This was after I drilled official Collegeboard SATs. I suggest you do the same and leave all workbooks other than the Blue Book behind.

To be frank, you do not necessarily have to practice from an SAT critical reading specific book. I assume you have trouble with CR as I do, and a book I am finding quite helpful is an AP English Language and Composition prep book. If you are taking this class, the book advantageously serves two purposes at once. The best feature of any such AP EL/C prep book is that some questions are often harder or more challenging that the actual SAT CR itself, making you more prepared.

Nah, Barron’s CR workbook contain NO questions like the ones you get on the SAT and really don’t prepare you well for it. Don’t use Barron’s for CR, one of its few joke books.

EXACTLY rahul! LOL I got extremely lucky and this happened the day of the test. then I took the PSAT 2 weeks later and got an 80 cr! just practice… some of my realizations were on that one thread I started, if they help :P

You guys are so unfair :c. Barron CR workbook is really good at increasing from a 500 to a 600. BB doesn’t even have good explanation. Like whenever I read its explanations, BB rephrases it to direct A as the correct answer. Barron really helps if you have a low score. So if you are scoring 650+, then forget it.

Beside, I shouldn’t be talking since I’m not scoring all that well. But what is your current CR score?

Dorkyelmo, I got an 800 CR on the SAT and then an 80 on the PSAT. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m the one from the 2300+ thread :P

I think practice was the only way I studied, so that was how I utilized the tests :)

LOL, really I don’t want to argue about it. I am definitely not high enough to give LEGIT advice. But we can’t really say what’s good for him until he says his score.

BTW, great score (; And by that I mean OMG THAT’S AMAZING

oh lol thank you!!! me neither :stuck_out_tongue: different stuff works for different people, that’s just what worked for me :)

Hey just wondering, are you good at math? Because I am having so much trouble with my precalc hw.

I’m all right! haha message me!

I am scoring around 520 in CR, and I will definately start to practice from BB. Thank you for your advice guys!
