CS190 at Brown

I am following up on an old question regarding CS 190. My son did enjoy the challenge of CS 190 but I am trying to evaluate what is the true merit of CS 190. I know some obvious ones that make it different. It is a much harder course and one is supposed to work independently as opposed to in groups. I wonder if it is truly worth all that work! Can there be gaps in knowledge as compared to CS 150 or 170 as it is not structured like a traditional course?

Also how often do students get an A in that course?
