Aside from the description on the catalogs, what exactly are CSE30 and ECE15? It says that CSE30 has Assembly and C, but is it an intro to those languages? What about ECE15? Also, is it better to take Physics 2A before diving into ECE?

I’m taking ECE15 right now. Its basically an intro to programming in C++. Theres no need to take phys2a before it. You only need a basic understanding of some math and you’ll be fine. Check out the prerequisites.

http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/courses/ECE.html

^ECE 15 is intro to programming in C.

ooo ok, cool. Is a hard class? The only language I can program in is Java. Is it vastly different than Java?

Also, is Benjamin Grinstein a good/decent professor? From RateMyProfessor, it doesn’t seem like it.

What about CSE30?

Advice?
Should I take CSE20, CSE30, ECE15, Physics2A and tutor for CSE3 or is that just suicidal?

ECE15 is apparently the easiest ECE class you’ll take according to the orientation.

Are you a freshman? Do you even have all the prereqs completed?

CSE20:
Prerequisites: CSE 8A or CSE 8B or CSE 11. CSE 8B or CSE 11 may be taken concurrently with CSE 20/ Math. 15A.

CSE30:
Prerequisite: CSE 12, CSE 15L, or consent of instructor.

Even if you do, i would much rather take the math20 series and a GE instead of three engineering classes. I never took the class, but from what i see, CSE classes are very time consuming.

just wondering, why do you have to take both ece15 and cse30?
I dont know of any major that would require you to take both those classes

@AndrewL - I’m a sophomore so I’ve taken 8A and 8B and I’ll finish 12 and 15L this quarter. Yeah they are. -_-

@godbreath - Well ECE15 isn’t explicitly required for CE majors, but ECE45 is and one of the prereqs for ECE45 is ECE15.

ece15 is not required for CE majors. You go to the ECE department and they waive it for you

So, the ECE dept will just waive it for me even though I’ve never taken a C++ programming class before? Or does CSE30 just count for it so I can just have it waived?

I’m not a CSE major, but I need to take either CSE8A/8B or CSE11 for my major. The only “programming” I’ve done is with html. I’m leaning towards taking CSE11. How difficult is CSE11 and how’s the workload?

@Rivital the ECE department will just waive it. Its not like you need to know C++ for ece45.

@ArtDance it really depends on the person. CSE 11 doesn’t really require to know programming. They will teach you all the basics in CSE 11, but they move really fast. If you feel like you can handle the pace then take CSE 11. Otherwise just take CSE 8
