CSOM students, should I take the Calculus AB exam?

I’m asking this because our AB class preparation has not made us confident about doing well on the exam. The test comes at a hefty price of $90 as well. Unless the credit is supremely beneficial, I probably won’t take the exam.

How much does Calc AB credit help for Finance majors?

Worth taking if you can score a 4.

As bluebayou said, if you think you can get at least a 4, do it. Otherwise you’ll be sitting through Calc again freshman year.

@Ortsac

Do you know how many freshman re-take Calculus 1?

I can’t tell you exact numbers off the top of my head, but I know a pretty good number do end up taking it freshman year. From what I’ve heard it goes much slower than AP Calc AB. Like I said, if you think you can get at least a 4, definitely do it. It will allow you to get further in the CSOM core/closer to actually taking classes in Finance.

Not sure about your school, but my son’s school collected those “hefty” AP fees weeks ago. It’s too late to sign up now on his campus for any AP tests. Also, many high schools require you to take the AP test if you were in the class. Ninety bucks versus BC’s tuition? I hope my son gets the 4 and can move ahead.

We pay a $21 dollar cancellation fee if we change our minds about taking it.

The thing is I feel like I’ll end up taking Calculus 1 at BC anyways since the AB class I’m taking is a joke.

just take calc 1 1st semester with clote

If you’re good at it enough to get a 4 and thus get credit, then yes. Otherwise, don’t. It’s really that simple.
