Hi, I have to submit my CSS profile by feb 1st for some schools, and when I got to the end of the profile I saw that I have to pay $201 for 12 schools, but there's a fee payment code option for the schools that I'm applying to. My total family income is $61,043 for this year, and my family has almost no assets. I get free lunch and I used fee waivers for the SAT and to apply to college. My question is basically how should I go about asking schools for their fee payment code? Is the best method by phone or e-mail?

if it tells you that you have to pay, then you didn’t qualify for a fee waiver. it automatically judges whether or not you qualify for the fee to be covered, and if it doesn’t judge that you qualify, then you have to pay it. There is no appeal process. My mom only made $38K last year and I didn’t qualify so I think you’re out of luck.

how do i get Fee Payment Codes and Program Codes for css profile for the universities I’m applying to?

There are no few payment codes. As the previous poster stated, when you submit your information you are told right then and there if you are few waiver eligible. Since you received a" bill" of $201 your options are pay the bill or do not have your info processed. You can try contacting the individual financial aid offices to ask if troy can send your information directly to them.

Scan one of your SAT fee waiver cards and email it to the college FA offices when you ask them to give you a code. Point-out that the Admissions office gave you a fee waiver code when you applied (or email whatever documentation you sent when you requested the app fee waiver). Say in the email msg that you will follow-up with a phone call, then do it.

From speaking with the College Board about the CSS Profile fee, it is my understanding that the colleges might choose to give you a code if you request one but I haven’t tried it.

I believe that the College Board determines whether it will award fee waivers for the Profile…not the colleges.

You can not use the fee waiver codes from the SAT/SAT II for the CSS profile

If you participate in a CBO (or Questbridge) it is possible that may be able to get a fee waiver code from them. Otherwise you must contact the school directly regarding waiving the fee.

I am a college admissions counselor in an inner city school where 90% plus students get Pell grants, have 0 EFC, and occasionally a student’s family has income of $60,000 to $130,000. I have tried this up down and sideways, and have NEVER (despite excruciatingly low family income levels) gotten any sort of codes from any colleges. I do about 35 CSS Profiles per year. As stated, the Profile has some sort of sliding scale fee which takes into account income and family size. However, when students use it for a large number of colleges, they usually end up paying SOME portion of the fee. Ya just have to eat it–even when we have called schools, we have yet to find one that knows anything about this.

Don’t even ask about the parent who lives in Nigeria, but it turns out CollegeBoard won’t accept credit card payments from people who live in Nigeria!
