CSS filling confusion

In the section of Parent's Household Information(PH) first question, it says, 'Enter the number of people who depends with parent.......parents'

I am confused in this part because I am independent with my parents. I depend with my uncles. What shall I write there?

Any suggestions?

P.S. My widowed mother has no income source except uncle.

Please clarify your question. Your use of the word “depends” isn’t making any sense.

(1) What do you mean by “independent with your parents”?

(2) What do you mean by “depend with your uncles”?

I mean uncle is sponsoring for my education.

Okay, so I don’t have the CSS Profile open in front of me, but I’d guess it asks:

(1) What moneys have been paid on your behalf during the past year?

This is where you’d list any money he’s paid for your education during the past year. If he’s paid any other bills for you (bills that were in your name), you’d list that, as well. If you live with him, and he supplies food and clothing for you, you would not need to include those particular expenses.

As for your mother, it sounds like the number of people in her household would be just herself, you, and any younger siblings. This would be true even if you are staying with your uncle, unless there is a court order giving your uncle legal responsibility for you.

What makes you an independent student?

Remember just because you may be an independent student for FAFSA purposes, will not mean that you are an independent student for the CSS profile (and institutional aid)

what schools are you considering?

You will most likely have to include your mom’s income/assets in addition to any monies that you are receiving from your uncle. Does your uncle also support your mom?

yes uncle suppots mom too

Enter the number of people who live with your parents and are financially dependent on your parents for at least half of their daily living expenses. Always include yourself (even if you do not live with your parents) and your parents.

This is the question…
asks for financial dependent??? but i do not financially depend on my parents. what to write?

As I said before, you include yourself and any younger siblings. You do this even if your mom isn’t paying your expenses, and even if you don’t live with her.

Like I said before, unless there’s a court order making your uncle responsible for you, then your mom is your “custodial parent” for purposes of these documents. Yes, your uncle may be supporting you, but he has no legal obligation to you, so he does NOT get included on the forms.

If he is giving money to your mom, I’m guessing that would be included as gift income that she receives.

You are only “independent” for purposes of these forms if you are actually working and supporting yourself, and have been doing so for several years. Otherwise, your mom is your custodial parent whether she supports you or not.

And, I might as well ask, because the colleges are going to - where is your dad? If he’s alive and you know where he is, his information is going to be needed also. (Different form, though. He’d have to fill out the noncustodial parent form.)

thanks alot
