Our D listed all of her schools at once when we submitted her initial PROFILE application and IDOC documents. My understanding is that if you subsequently add another college or colleges to a PROFILE application, the subsequent college(s) should be able to access the IDOC documents that you previously uploaded.
First of all, in order to use IDOC, any college that’s added has to be an IDOC participant. Many Profile schools get tax and other documents in some way other than IDOC.
Very true. We were fortunate that all of the colleges our D applied to used PROFILE and IDOC if they wanted additional documents from us. The best bet is to study each college’s financial aid website carefully to understand how they collect documents (IDOC or or some other method) or call or e-mail them if you’re still not sure.
Additionally, some CSS Profile schools only use IDOC for currently enrolled students (soph, jr and sr year) - but they use another method for prospective students.
When divorced parents are submitting the CSS Profile to each school, does EACH parent have to pay $16.00 to add the same new school or is that once the non-custodial parent completes his profile and pays the original $25.00, it now becomes part of the students CSS PROFILE?
No the non-custodial parent doesn’t pay anything - that parent’s part is considered part of the form. @liveonboca
He had to pay $25, but I think he is done now. I see on the custodial profile that he submitted it yesterday. He is just waiting on the IDOC link to become active I guess so he can upload his docs like I had to as the custodial. Thank you.
We could not file IDOC as we are separated but taxes for that year were filed as Married Filing Jointly. Submitted all forms 24 hours ago for ED1 school only. Do I just proactively sent a pdf of our taxes or will they ask for them if D is admitted?
Very sorry for my mistake! My NCP never mentioned it and so I ASSumed
Completing CSS profile now and I will only answer the required (red asterisk) questions. Does anyone know if only answering the required questions affects the CSS submittal or financial aid negatively?
@veggietime - I do not know the answer to your question. I feel strongly that eventually they will get the information they feel they need to make an informed decision. One of the schools my son applied to required year and make of cars, years owned and mileage. Kind of crazy.
@Politipotamus I didn’t realize you’d answered my question! Thanks. That’s what I ended up doing. All the schools so far have been satisfied by the non filer form they ask you to fill out.

@ProfessorMom1 I’m glad things are working out for you on all of this!
Hey guys i have an urgent question. So there is this portion of the css that asks for fathers income from work and net income from business as separate things. Well in my case my father solely owns a business and that is his only work. I fear that including this income under father’s work and then under business would look like my fam has a business in addition to my fathers work which isnt the case. What should i do? Also it asks net income of business then later it asks gross reciept of business. Is net after business expenses and tax is deducted or after every single expense my fam has is deducted? Also does gross receipt mean total income before any deductions?
And finally, i am international and was wondering if i should fill out the form in us dollars or my currency? Does filling it out in mu currency cause delays, confusion or anything to my disadvantage?
Thanks so much any response is appreciated.
One additional question. Is tax considered a business expense?
