I was just about to submit my CSS profile but on the last page it told me to look some things over. It said that I put that my parents pay 0 income tax, and that I might want to change it.

(PI - 140A ), it says "Enter the income tax your parents paid for 2010 from their 2010 IRS Form 1040, line 55."

I have the form right in front of me and I'm staring at line 55, which says 0. It says subtract line 54 from line 46.. and when I subtract the two, it's zero. However, when I look at the 2009 forms, line 55 says 991.

I'm really confused, and have not found anything to help me on google! There was a similar thread, but I did not see any solutions..

It’s certainly plausible that your parents paid zero income tax, and if you’re looking at the form and it says zero and the computations all look correct, then it probably is. Your parents may be able to help you understand why they owed tax last year and not this year, or maybe you yourself can see where the difference arises between the 2009 and 2010 forms.

If your parents really paid 0 tax, then that’s find and you can go ahead and submit the form. They were just checking to make sure you didn’t accidentally miss the question or something.
