<p>Assuming you know your father’s physical location, email, or telephone (or can find it by asking someone or looking it up), then you send him the non-custodial parent form. He fills it out and sends it directly to the Collegeoard. He will not see your mother’s financial information, and neither you or your mother will see his.</p>
<p>If you absolutely have no knowledge of where he is or how to contact him, you will need to contact the colleges you’re applying to and explain the situation. You may be able to get a non-custodial parent waiver.</p>

<p>And, yes, in America, divorced parents often have to have contact with each other because of court ordered child-support, visitation, and to participate in holiday/school events. There are some “absent dads,” but many dads are active in their children’s lives after divorce. In America, you don’t “divorce” your kids (altho some parents may act like that).</p>

<p>You’ll go ahead and complete the application and submit everything necessary (excluding the non-custodial parent info). That will go to the CollegeBoard (the CSS Profile is a CollegeBoard operation).</p>
<p>The colleges you apply to will get your CSS application sent directly to them by the College Board. What they get will be missing the non-custodial parent information, so they will consider your application incomplete and will not process it. In order to get it processed you’ll need to contact them about getting a non-custodial parent waiver. Different schools will have different requirements for getting that waiver. You can’t really know how easy or difficult it will be until you talk to them about it. (And, yes, you would need to go through this process with each school.)</p>
<p>You can go ahead with the submitting your CSS Profile though. You do not need to get the non-custodial parent waiver first. You just need to get it from each school in order for them to finish processing your application.</p>

<p>Are there CSS schools that won’t accept a waiver? Are there schools that demand something from the non-custodial parent? It would seem that through a parent’s SSN, virtually any person could be found in the US, unless he’s really “gone into hiding”.</p>
