When it says parents' income and stuff like that, do we just add both incomes together?

Also, what do we do if a parent did not file taxes, for it wasn't an "official" job, such as babysitting?

Yes, if your parents are married filing separately or divorced you would combine income, although I am not certain about the divorced portion of the income.

For babysitting, it would presumably fall under “untaxed income”, which there is a section for on the application.

Thank you.
Also, my mother did not remarry, but she lives with another person, ie, a partner.
What would I put?

Your mother’s partner does not get listed on the CSS Profile.

If your parents are divorced, check to see if the school requires a non-custodial parent Profile. If so, your dad will need to complete that.

NOT for the divorced parents. For divorced parents, the custodial parent (and spouse if there is one) complete the Profile, and the non-custodial parent (and spouse if there is one) complete the non-custodial parent Profile if required. The non-custodial divorced parent NEVER puts their information on the custodial parent’s form.

thanks thumper… I wasn’t sure about the info, so that is why I included the disclaimer :-)

So even though they have children together and he contributes to a majority of the household’s budget, I still don’t report his earnings?
Do I even list him?

Also, my dad died, so do I automatically disregard the Noncustodial Profile, or would I have to waiver out of it somehow? Cause there is no option on the main Profile to do that.

I believe there is a question on the Profile (and on the FAFSA) regarding monies paid on your behalf. If your mom’s boyfriend contributes to your expenses, you would list the amount he contributes there.

In the NCP name you should be able to put something like deceased.

Monies paid on your behalf usually refers to money paid to the student. Generally speaking, in kind support for the parent does not go on the FAFSA (and probably not on the Profile). If the school wants to know how the parent lives on a low income, the in kind support may come into play … but otherwise, in kind support is more relevant to the independent student. Read the directions carefully, and answer truthfully based on the directions.

Also, be aware that any money earned from self employment in excess of $400 is taxable. If your mom earned more than that from babysitting, she has to file a tax return. If you are verified, the school will require that your mom file a return in order for you to get financial aid.

Thank you very much for all of you guys’ help. I really appreciate it. :)
