I just realized I haven't done anything regarding signing up for financial aid when my friend mentioned it. She needs to send CSS profiles to all her schools.

However when I read requirements for the schools I am applying to, I see nothing of the sort, I though onnly the Fafsa was needed..

The schools I'm applying to are:
Babson College
Brown University
Columbia University
Cornell University
Emory University
Princeton University
Stanford University
University of Pennsylvania

and I was wondering if I need to submit CSS profiles for them, and if so, by when?

You have schools on your list that do require the CSS Profile. Look at each school’s website under Financial aid. It will tell you if you need to submit the profile and non-custodial parent info, etc. Deadlines will also be posted. Make a chart for yourself with the name of each school, what you need to submit, and the due dates for fin. aid. submission. Then, plod through and check off each as you accomplish the tasks. You have time, but will need your parents to file taxes much more quickly than they probably usually do. You can use estimated numbers from last year’s taxes if no major changes have occured financially. I know websites make it seem like students are capable of all this financial aid stuff, but I really recommend getting adult help. You probably haven’t filed complex taxes for yourself, and won’t understand a lot of the language/terms involved. This is too important to flounder through, and mistakes could cost you a lot of financial aid from schools.

Teach, thanks for the insight, I will probably have my parents do it with me, I just wasn’t sure if I needed done for tonight to meet the 1/1 deadlines for my schools.

I don’t see how a student can fill out those apps unless the parents turn over tax return and the values of all assets on the date the forms are being done. The parents are ususally the ones to complete the parental part of the form since it involves their finanancial sitautons and most families do not share this sort of thing to th details that these forms require.

Let your parents know that the info is the what is needed for the 2012 return–many just use the 2011 and revise those numbers the best they can as they go through them. Also the asset values like the dollar amounts in all accounts need to be talleyed, along with the home equity in the house. Make sure you don’t fill out the info on a day when the bank accounts are flush with the paycheck or with other money and before the bills are paid. You may be asked to provide statements of all accounts as of that day, and the schools won’t have it with reasons if the numbers don’t jive.

You should think of reimbusing your parents for any expenses of yours or pay down your personal accoutns because as the student 20% of ALL of your assets with zero allowance go directly to EFC wheras parents only get up to 5.6% so assessed and they have an asset protection amount as well.
