@liquidsugar I don’t live on campus, but MANY of my friends, especially those within the nursing program, do. I go up to their dorms a lot and they’re pretty amazing because they’re newer buildings. I’ve toured dorms at UC Davis, UCLA, and UCSB, and the CSUF and SDSU dorms are much bigger in size, and at CSUF (not sure about SDSU), almost all dormers live in doubles, so you’ll only have one roommate. Also, some campuses have their dorms pretty far away from the main campus (friends of mine at CSUN and CSULB take a shuttle to get to class so they doesn’t have to deal with the 20 minute walk), but the longest walk you can have between the dorms and any building on our campus is 10 minutes, 15 if you’re really taking your time.
@Lulu0716 thanks so much for all the info! i hope i get in
@Superman147 nope i haven’t hahaha
Thank you for all of the information! @Lulu0716
Me either @liquidsugar I am still waiting to hear back. What was your Eligibility index?
@Superman147 i have a 4,536 but nursing admissions are pretty unpredictable so i have no idea if i’ll get in or not lol
Wow, thats extremely high lol, you’ll get in! @liquidsugar
@Lulu0716 I heard that nursing majors have to maintain a 3.0 GPA for science prerequisites. Are the classes difficult and is it difficult to maintain the 3.0?
@uclahopefull I’m required to maintain a separate minimum GPA for the honors program, so I don’t know if CSUF nursing has the 3.0 rule, but we were told that we need a B- or above to pass all prerequisite math and science classes, along with our nursing specific classes later on. They do this so that if you someday decide to apply for grad school (perhaps to become a Nurse Practitioner), you’ll have a competitive GPA to apply with, and if you go directly into the workforce after graduation, you’ll have a high GPA to strengthen your applications. This makes it a bit harder to pass classes (usually a C- or above is passing in your other classes, so you have to maintain a higher grade to pass), but it definitely ensures that your GPA stays high. The professors in these classes are very understanding and try to make it so that you have buffer work to help your grade, and if they don’t offer buffer work, they’re typically very good lecturers, so passing the tests isn’t much of a problem. Basically, if you do your work/put in the time, you’ll do well, and your professors definitely understand your situation as nursing students and try to work with you
@liquidsugar @Superman147 No problem, and good luck to both of you!
12/6 @Superman147
My daughter was accepted to the program and I just want to know if maintaining 3.0 is doable? What were your classes first semester, did an adviser help you pick your classes?

@lastofthree Maintaining a 3.0 is definitely doable, especially if she takes advantage of the extra resources on campus! An advisor helps you pick your classes during your summer orientation date, and she’ll take the same classes as the rest of her nursing cohort (except for General Education requirements, which she chooses for herself), so it’ll be easy to form study groups with friends. The required first semester nursing classes are Chemistry (Chem 200) and Anatomy/Phys (KNES 191A), and on top of these you’re required to fit in statistics sometime by the end of freshman year, either first or second semester (unless you have AP credit in statistics). These are the required courses, but I also took an additional two courses to start finishing up GE’s. That was a personal choice, and it’s something your daughter can look into with her academic advisor. Also, she can always choose the five year plan over the four year plan (her advisor will talk to her about this option as well) and that will make her freshman year easier by splitting her prerequisites over two years instead of one. Hope this helps!

@Lulu0716 hi again! are your classes/the nursing classes small? or are they in lecture halls with hundreds of people?
@liquidsugar They’re very small. My largest by far was 66 people (Chem), but the others were 15-30, and classes get even smaller as you move up into upper division nursing classes.
