Professor,
We heard that some of your staff and students are going to attend the masters class with Megan Mullally at the OC Performing Arts Center in April. Our D has been selected to represent OCHSA as a guest singer. We hope you have time to attend so we can meet you. If not, we'll be sure to stop by your office soon. She is so looking forward to starting her college experience at CSUF.

hello! I was accepted into CSF for theater, and looking at going there. I just had a few questions for you Prof. Himmelheber...

I am currently looking to transfer from CSF to an east coast MT school. Do you guys frown upon that? Is that even possible? If it is, do you have any students who actually do it?

Can freshman audition for productions? Do you encourage or discourage students from auditioning locally for productions?

I'm still waiting to hear from CSU Fullerton about an admissions decision. I was emailed financial aid information and a request to send more documents with my fin aid application which I did. Does getting this financial aid information mean I was admitted? Should I call the school to see what's going on?

Call the school and find out where your application stands, after checking online (Titan Online with your application ID and pin) to be sure it doesn't alrdeady say there.

They are always backlogged, and registration doesn't even start til May, so there is not a huge rush. But you do want to be persistent with them.

:)

Transfer students are accepted - there is a certain process that I should go over with you. If you email me directly, I can send you more complete information (the prerequisites to jurying into the program). ehimmelheber@fullerton.edu

Eve: Your dance teacher Macarena is a wonderful choreographer. She choreographed the musical this year at my daughter's high school, and the kids really loved her work. The dancers particularly were thrilled to work with a choreographer of her caliber.

Thank you, Professor Himmelheber I'll call the school and find out :)

Mac is GREAT! The students here love her, and our area really respects her work and motivation. We're lucky to have her.

drum:

Sorry, I misread your question. Yes, you are welcome to transfer out to another school (East Coast is closer to NYC). You would need to check with the school you hope to transfer to so that you are sure to take courses that they will accept and/or that will prepare you for your studies there...

We do permit freshmen to audition for the mainstage season after their first semester. In their first semester here, they can audition for directing one-acts; our "Grand Central" (satellite facility in Santa Ana) original, edgy and/or intimate productions; and any off campus shows that will work around their school commitments (there is a mandatory orientation course for all freshmen in the first semster - last year it met on Monday night from 7-10pm). We encourage students who have auditioned here and are not cast to audition and work at any of the myriad of local theatre companies (there are a lot of really good ones relatively close to campus).

Hope this answer better addresses your question.

:)

The curriculum committee has approved the BFA in Acting, and it looks like it will be in the catalog for fall 2006!

Yipeeeee!

I had not heard that... It may be our advanced Musical Theatre class (taught by Mitch Hanlon, Musical Director of the program). We are often invited to these master classes. They are a wonderful opportunity to work material and receive feedback from professionals. I hope to get an invite - maybe I'll see you there.

Prof.
We just read the entire West Coast MT thread... YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF!!! What a great discussion!
We are so grateful for the info you've given us. We're going to the CSUF campus tour tomorrow 4/8. Can't wait. Are you going to be there?

Oh, shoot! I didn't read the message until this A.M.; otherwise, I would have met with you to answer any questions, discuss the curriculum, etc.

So sorry to have missed you,

eve

Prof.
We had a great tour of CSUF. The Performing Arts facilities are fantastic!!!
Wish we could have met you there. The Dean of Arts gave us the tour. Very nice man. He's very proud of the faculty and new building...we don't blame him! JUST GREAT!!!

Our D knows now that she made the perfect choice of schools.

Seems I missed a LOT of our talented new "family." I believe I am doing the New Student Orientations this summer, so we'll get acquainted then. If there is anything you need in the meantime, please don't hesitate to write.

See you all soon!

:)

Great news! I just found out I was accepted to Cal State Fullerton :)

Excellent! Now sign up for the earliest New Student Orientation that you can possibly attend (you register that day, and the earlier ones have best choice of open classes).

And don't sign up for Freshman Programs until AFTER you have received your orientation (or else there won't be a Theatre/Dance person there to advise you...).

Can't wait to meet you,

eve

Okay great!
Will do.
Thank you!

I have a couple of questions about the voice training at CSUF. As I work towards a BFA will I have the opportunity to take classical voice lessons all four years?

Only if you are a music minor (they provide lessons to freshmen and sophomores, whereas musical theatre only offers lessons with our own instructors once you are in the program in your junior and senior year).

You should contact the Music Dept. to inquire as to vocal juries for admission as a voice minor.
