Got denied today. 3.8 GPA (weighted) with 8 AP classes including senior year. Not surprised, it seems as though CSULB’s standards are getting higher by the year.
Yes, you need to check each schools student portal for admission decision information but you will receive an email once the decisions have been made.
All applicants should be checking the portals regularly for updates and if missing information is requested prior to the decision.
Does anyone know if CSULB has an admissions email? I have a couple questions and I am unable to find how to contact them
Accepted This Morning!!! 3.75 CSU GPA, Kinesiology, local in state, super happy! Not my first choice but still very viable option with it only costing about 5k in tuition every year. (My mom is a CSU employee so tuition is cut in half).
i got denied FOR PRE NRUSING with a 4.2 GPA 8 AP 2 honors gpa went up everyyear 3.89 gpa unweight, low income, first gen, half white and asian, OMG HOOWWW IM CRYINGGG I HAVE TO GO TO CHICO STATE NOW GUMMY MOMM PLEASE HELP ME WHAT DO I DO
im breaking down and crying i dont want to go to chico state i can’t believe I got denied from long beach state please help me @gummymom
Hi sammy147519, if you want I think it is @Gumbymom that you are asking for. Pre-Nursing is a very competitive major so don’t beat yourself up, you have great stats! Also, you aren’t doomed to Chico State. If that is the only other school you applied to, there are still OOS schools such as University of Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State, Washington State all of which are high end research institutions with nursing majors that are still accepting applications. Arizona & Washington State have guarenteed admissions to those with good enough stats, which you would qualify for. They also give good OOS merit aid! If you have any questions, I tended to apply broadly so I know a lot of schools!
My daughter is denied for CS. No email but portal was updated. 3.8 GPA (weighted) with 8 AP classes and 3 Honors. This was not her top choice but still bummed that she is denied.
@sammy147519: What @SDSUHopefulClassof2025 stated is correct that all Pre-Nursing and Direct admit Nursing programs are highly competitive and you are a very qualified applicant. We’re you offered another major at CSULB instead of Nursing?
Also look at ASU’s program where with your stats, you may get some merit aid to help in college costs.
What other schools did you apply? Did you apply to any Direct admit programs?
Chico state might not be your first choice, but they have a respected program and in the end it does not matter where you go for Undergrad, but what opportunities you take advantage of that will make you successful. I would suggest you visit Chico state first before making any assumptions and perhaps PM @NCalRent whom is pretty knowledgeable about the campus and town.
My niece’s best friend attends Chico state (which was not her first choice) but the school is growing on her so to speak.
There are other options to get your BSN:
-
Attend a community college, complete the Nursing pre-req courses and then transfer to a BSN program at a 4 year University.
-
Attend a 4 year university as a non-Nursing major and complete a regular bachelor’s degree (in anything, although a science major makes this easier), then go back to school and get an accelerated second BSN. ABSN programs usually take 14-18 months after your first bachelor’s degree, which adds time and expense to getting your BSN but still a viable alternative.
Best of luck and hopefully you have other schools from which to hear from still pending.
My son was accepted with. 4.29 gpa, 7 AP and lots of honors classes, for the Pre-BFA in Illustration/Animation. So excited for him! This is his second choice of the Cal States…still waiting on San Jose.
did you apply to any other schools besides chico and long beach? like other people mentioned, you could try applying to out of state schools like asu that are still accepting applications. i believe there are a few csus still accepting applications until late february/early march (sonoma state, csu east bay, and humboldt state). i’m not sure if they have nursing programs but you could check. also, chico isn’t that bad! i applied and got in and i admit, it’s not my first choice, but it’s a pretty solid csu that has a pretty classic college experience being located in a college town.
@sammy147519
You didn’t get into LB so, they aren’t an option. Rejection sucks and it’s not your fault but, here you are. In CA, direct admit nursing programs a stupidly competitive. Instead of crying about it, focus on the doors that are open to you, Sounds like that’s Chico, a CC and applying to other programs that have extended deadlines. Transferring to LB from a CC is even more competitive than for freshmen - so that’s probably not really a viable path, I think (but dont know) ASU aps closed 2/1 and. WSU is open til 2/15 - so they could be options
My son was rejected by his first choice (SLO), waitlised by his second choice (CSULB) Long story short, he went to Chico an LOVED it. It is a great college town, reasonably sized school. He got a solid education and his degree has been well received.
I encourage you to visit Chico, tour the school, talk to some current students before ruling it out. Reach out to the nursing school and ask for a contact - I am pretty sure you will be impressed.
Good luck
No they didn’t offer me another major, flat out denied. I can’t go out of state my parents said it’s too costly even with scholarships. I applied to 4 direct admit programs but I doubt I’ll get since I got denied from long beach. I don’t hate chico but I don’t really want to go because people from my school go there a lot, and people there party and I’m worried I won’t find someone like me there who just wants to study all day and watch a movie at night. Thanks gumby mom and everyone else you guys made me feel better. I’m going to write a appeal though to try one last time.
thank you!!!
same girl! sameeee. bruh who did they accept into their nursing program then?
sorry you got denied too do you know where you will most likely go now? this feeling sucks i hate it lol
@sammy147519: Just remember that getting into a Pre-Nursing program anywhere, still does not guarantee you a spot in the Nursing school after completing all the requirements. Sorry but true…
i’m still waiting on sf state and sac state. i already got accpeted into the nursing program at concordia university of irvine, but long beach was my number one choice . so now I am praying I get into either sf or sac.
my son got in! his major is CS. he has a 4.1 or so with 20 AP/honors classes. happy about this one, but he would love SLO. we know that’s a super duper long shot though.
Look at Washington State, they are open till the end of Feb. and you are eligible for an automatic 11k, I applied and it is currently a cheaper option than non-local CSU’s for me right now. 28k for WSU w/ scholarship and 25k for CSU’s, only a 3k difference, and a much more nationally recognized education/ more robust campus/college experience. And here is the ASU scholarship estimator, I have worse stats and got my cost down to instate UC costs!
https://scholarships.asu.edu/estimator
University of Arizona will offer you 20k a year, bringing the cost to 33k based off your GPA.
Considering you want to live on-campus for Chico and Long Beach the prices including merit scholarships would be as follows:
CSU Chico -24k a year - (96k for 4 years)
CSU Long Beach - 25k a year - (100k for 4 years)
ASU - you will have to fill out the calculator
UA - 33k a year - (132k for 4 years)
WSU - 28k a year - (112k by 4 years)
