CSU Long Beach EPT/ELM

I wanted to go visit CSULB this weekend but the deadline to register for these exams is friday. I was wondering if by registering for the exams, I am saying that I will go to Long Beach. I am not 100% sure if I want to go, which is why I was going to visit. Can I register for the EPT and ELM and decide not to show up for the test (and thus not go to CSULB)?

If you register for the exams, and even if you take the exams, it does not mean you are committing to CSULB. You can also register and not take the test, if you so please. But if you take the test, it at least gives you the option of whether to go to LB. Registering for the exams has nothing to do with accepting LB’s offer of admission.

Oh that is a relief. I have one more question; I know I can be exempted for both exams due to my high SAT and ACT scores (and I passed the English AP Exam), but I don’t know if I should go that route. The deadline to register is April 20th, the exams are May 5th. I have to fill out a form (found here: [EPT/ELM, CSULB](http://www.csulb.edu/divisions/students/testing/eptelm/)) and mail it or deliver (I would deliver it). The form says “You will be notified only if your exemption is not granted.” I don’t have much time so I have a few options:

-Call and ask (I should do this anyway)
-Register for the exams just in case I am not exempted (which is highly unlikely, right?) and if I am exempted, not show up for the exams
-Not register, submit form, and pray that I am exempted
-Register, forget about being exempted, and take the exams

What is your advice?

Alex1357,
Did you submit your SAT/ACT test scores to CSULB? If not, definitely submit the necessary exemption forms. If so, from my son’s experience two years ago, they notified him that he did not have to take the tests - notification came through the welcome packet. I would definitely call their admissions office so they can bring up your info and tell you directly. I would not take the tests if you did not need to. They are placement tests and starting this year, if I understand things correctly, students who do not achieve the minimum need to take remedial courses this summer at their local CSU.

Meeting all deadlines is a term/condition for admission, so even though you haven’t formally decided, don’t miss the deadline and jeopardize your chances.

Your AP and SAT scores should cover your exemption. Don’t trip.
