CSU or UC?

I got into a couple UCs, as well as CSUs. I was just wondering, does it really make a difference for grad school if you go to a CSU or UC? I feel like it doesn't make THAT big of a difference, as long as you have a decent GPA.

Which UCs and which CSUs did you get accepted to?

What is your major and career goal?

Is this a cost issue? Are you considering a CSU because it miht save you about $10k per year?

I put business as my major, and I am considering to switch it to political science. Whichever major I choose, I plan to minor in the other.
I plan on attending law school as well.
Cost is not a major issue. I am debating between the two because I know that at UCs the professors don’t really teach, but have TA’s do a lot of the work instead. At CSUs, professors teach.

UC and UC professors do teach let’s not be ridiculous.

Completely untrue

I’m not sure, but I’ve been told that UC’s are much more research-oriented and you can learn a lot of information but it can’t all be applied directly to a job. CSU’s are more career-oriented and they can be good for real-life and job application. I’m guessing this is a pretty rough estimate though, it might depend on the university.

Regarding the TA issue, I don’t think that’s true, atleast for most UC’s. Go find out yourself for each individual university if that’s a big deciding factor.

I think the TA thing is more true of the larger UCs, if there’s any truth in it at all.

Really if you aren’t worried about prestige, and the colleges all have decent programs in your areas of interest, find the college you’re most comfortable with. Visit the campus if you haven’t already and see which place leaves you feeling excited, which place feels like home. Might be a rather non-academic way to do it, but it’s an approach I like.

The typical pattern at UC Berkeley is that the class’ main lecture is done by a faculty member, while TAs run discussion hours and labs, if the class has them.

The few courses where the main class session is led by a TA are stuff like freshman English writing courses.

Is it true that CSU classes tend to be smaller?

Go to each individual school’s web site and search for its schedule of classes. That should tell you how large classes are at each school.
