I’m feeling a little lost with this whole transfer process now that I have a choice to make and I am hoping some of you lovely people would be able to give me advice/information I might need to make the right decision
The CSU’s I applied to for Fall 2017: San Diego State(Pending for Health Comm), Long Beach (Accepted), Fullerton(Accepted) , Cal Poly Pomona (Accepted), San Francisco State (Accepted)
- Rank these schools?
- Which ones are best for my major? - Communication Studies (not Communications)
- Rank in order of closest to feeling like a real university? (As I am from a CCC, I have always lived ~20 minutes from anyone I meet which doesn't help one grow new friendships or social circles, join groups, etc.)
- Least expensive to most expensive? (Tuition, Housing, Food, Etc. / Probably off campus but close)
- Any extra advice? I don't know what I don't know and what I do know probably isn't enough haha
Tuition/fees/books, etc is close to equal across the CSU system. Rent near campus - I bet Pomona is cheapest, SDSU, Fullerton and Long Beach are probably similar. the cost of living in SF is pretty absurd right now. You can use Zillow or Hotpads to find and compare rentals near each school.
SDSU has the higherst % of students living close to campus and will probably give you the most classic ‘college experience’. The others are all really commuter schools. That’s not to say you can’t find pockets of student dense areas nearby - but nowhere near what you’ll find at SDSU. Of course, they all have clubs, fraternities, sports, etc - so you can have the experience but, you will need to work a little harder for it.
I’d suggest you spend some time on each campus - talk to students, Figure out where you will feel most comfortable - then go there.
Congrats on having some great options from which to choose.
Good luck
