Hello,
I am a sophomore at Chico State, and I would really like to transfer to UC Santa Cruz. I am currently studying abroad in Japan for the year, but I am thinking about coming back a semester early to go to a CC for a semester because there are some courses I need in order to transfer but can't get here. I know that CSU priority is below CC. Will that one semester move me up the in priority at all and increase my chances of getting admitted?
I plan on changing my major (to psychology) and would get all the lower-division requirements met at CC.
Is there any hope of getting admitted this way?
I have a 3.3GPA.

I am not sure if a single semester at CC would help. I know for CCC to CSU transfers, the CSUs count how many units one has from prior schools for categorization as “local transfer” and for “CCC vs 4year”. So, for a case where a student went to a 4year college AND a CCC, they compare units, and the category is assigned by the majority of units.

If UCs do something similar (though I do not know), then it would tilt to whichever category/school you had the most credits.

Check to see if UCSC lists transfer gpa acceptances by major, as I know other UCs post this info on their websites.
