CSU Waiting Game...How Long Until I Find Out I've Been Accepted?

When I was a high school senior, I got notification of SSU and HSU in early December (2014). I honestly can’t remember when I got the other acceptances. Definitely set up and check your portals, especially for SSU. I set up my portal and it showed I had already gotten in, about a month before I received anything in the mail (physical or otherwise).

Now as a transfer I am dying to hear back from the CSUs I applied to. It is only February but it feels like forever.

This computer glitch on the SAT score results may have something to do with delayed notification this year?

Cal Poly Pomona is finally releasing decisions on their portal!

I got a provincial admit!

@EssentiallyAlly Congratulations!

For SDSU and CSULB can I ask your major, GPA, non-local/local and whether you were accepted? Really anxious waiting to hear back from both of them

@unpaidguidence19 How funny! Yes unfortunately UCLA and I did not click last year and maybe that was for the best because it would have really pushed me over the edge financially. I intended to apply again for this year but it was difficult to put my heart into the application when I felt like I gave it my all the year before. I STILL haven’t heard back from CSUN and I’m a little panicky from such a long wait. Hopefully you’re right about my chances being good. Fingers crossed! Have you made any decisions on which school you’ll be attending?

I did find out about a week ago that I was rejected from CSULB, which really surprised me since I actually live in Long Beach lol. I didn’t really want to go there and was treating it as a back-up, but this rejection does make me extra anxious about CSUN.

@northremembers I’m actually at CSUN right now! I contemplated reapplying to UCLA but I figured that I got the acceptance to the places that I was supposed to be. It was a tough call between SDSU and CSUN but the program here is AMAZING so I’m happy :slight_smile: and it’s 1/2 the price of UCLA! CSULB is SUPER hard to get into but tbh, I think CSUN tops their program with all of the new equipment and professors that they have now! Good luck!!

@unpaidguidence19 Oh okay awesome! Then I will definitely hit you up if I get accepted to CSUN lol. CSUN seems to put more value in screenwriting than CSULB anyway, which is the discipline I’m pretty laser focused on. I’m glad to hear from someone who goes there (and shares my major) that it’s a great school! I just finished the housing application for SFSU and got majorly stressed. Not really liking the thought of moving all the way to SF so that’s another reason I’m hoping for an acceptance from CSUN!

@northremembers Hey, I applied to CSUN’s film program for screenwriting too. Im not local though so I’m a bit worried, hoping my 3.62 is enough to get me in! Good luck!

Edit: I was also rejected from CSULB, I wasn’t surprised though because I didn’t have many of the pre-reqs done. Their film program wasn’t anything special either.

@cmariecc Oh good, someone who is in the same boat as me! That may have been why I was rejected from CSULB too. There was one class that I never took which I thought was optional, but maybe not. Hmm. You have a strong GPA so in that sense at least you’re a better candidate than I am! I have no idea how many students they plan to accept into the screenwriting program though. And I’m technically not local either even though I live in LA county. Hopefully we both get in! Good luck to you too! Did you apply to any other schools besides CSUN and CSULB and have you heard back from them yet??

@northremembers I’ve heard so many mixed things about getting into CSUN as a non-local transfer student. My counselors at my CC said I have no chance, but after talking to people on here it seems I’m not too bad off.

I also applied to SDSU, I live in San Diego but still not considered local because I’m in North county and local is South of me. So I’m kind of just crossing my fingers for either one at this point. I have all pre-reqs for CSUN done and missing 1 for SDSU, so thinking CSUN is my best bet.

@cmariecc Yeah it honestly seems like a toss up getting into csu’s! Because I am definitely local to CSULB bc I live in Long Beach but I didn’t get in. I’m definitely not local to SFSU but I got an early acceptance. It would help if these schools had some statistics readily available regarding how many students they accept by major but I haven’t been able to find anything useful.

@northremembers: SJSU lists the Eligibility index thresholds for Freshman or GPA for Transfers from the previous year by major to give applicants an idea of how they may fare in admissions. SDSU lists the # of applicants/#of admits/# of enrolled by major each year so you can determine the acceptance rate.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to find comparable data for CSUN or CSULB.

Freshman:

Transfers:

For Freshman and Transfers:

The link below does not give information by major, but it gives enrollment information along with average CSU GPA/Test scores, local vs non-local cutoffs etc… for each campus.

@Gumbymom - Can you explain what the enrolled section indicates. Thanks

Enrolled section is the # of admitted students that accepted and enrolled in the school.

@Gumbymom …Chico had 15,700+ admitted and only 2800 enrolled??

@maddog00: Maybe applicants use Chico as a safety and then enroll in their choice school or applicants may apply and then change their mind after visiting?? Not sure why their enrollment is so much lower than admitted applicants. Most CSU’s have an idea of their yield. You have to remember CSU’s are setup for local applicants which may be on low side in #’s since it is not near a large city making commuting difficult and living on-campus expensive for many students.

@Gumbymom - thank you for all your knowledge in this whole college process. I appreciate it.

My son applied to CSUN in November. He applied for their screenwriting major as well which is impacted so we knew there would be a wait. We’ve set up the portal and check it daily as well as his CSUN email and nothing (other than many scholarship opportunities). We are out of state. I realize the California folks get first dibs. Totally ok with that but I’d also love to know something. He’s got a 3.5GPA and a 1280 on the SAT’s. Tons of ec’s. Great recommendations. Good portfolio. I know it’s crazy competitive for the oos kids but what are his chances? I’m seriously thinking of calling admissions if we don’t hear by April 1…(sigh)
