I believe the super early acceptances will be out in mid-February, with most of the rest coming in March. From what I’ve seen, only the waitlisted people are heading in April.
Most CSU’s send out acceptances starting in February. Some schools have early acceptances in December such as SDSU. Last year CSU Fullerton sent out early acceptances also in December along with Cal Poly Pomona, but nothing for this year so far. Be patient and you should be hearing soon.
Last year I got my decisions back from Long Beach and SDSU in early March, CSUN in mid-March, and Fullerton’s in like late April if not AFTER may 1st. I think it just depends on each school but in a general sense, I would say that early March is most likely to be when you’ll be notified.
CSUN (local): Television Production (however I have now switched to Screenwriting)
REJECTED:
Fullerton: Radio-Television-Film major
CSU Long Beach: Critical Theory and practice major
My GPA was a 3.32 I believe
My Golden 4 classes were all completed with A’s
I also applied to UCSC (film), UCR (film), UCSD (digital media), and UCLA (TFT). I was accepted into all of them except UCLA.
@kimmmberly123 If there are any other stats that I’m missing and you would like to know them or if anybody has questions about anything or either system’s application process, do not hesitate to ask.
I had quite the experience last year with applications, so I’m happy to help in any way I can!
@ironweasal to be quite honest, I have no idea. I honestly just applied because I had an extra fee waiver and figured why not humor myself with the idea of another school…I didn’t think I would get in at all. But I will say the reason I PERSONALLY (keyword) think it’s easier to get into a UC than it is a CSU is that when you apply to the UC’s a HUMAN is evaluating you! The CSU’s admit based on an algorithm so a human doesn’t see it at all. It’s all numbers, and a computer decides your fate. The UC system has humans read your essays; they discuss pros and cons, etc. It is a genuinely holistic approach. I sincerely believe that my essays are what got me into the UC schools. On top of only a 3.32, I had no resume or extracurricular activities. If the TFT program at UCLA accepted more than 15 transfers, perhaps I could have gotten in there too. They REALLY care about admitting based on the whole picture of a person rather than just numbers. It’s easier to ask a human to give you a chance to thrive than it is to ask a machine.
I think the state schools need to start doing something like this. Admitting based on local status and GPA ALONE is in my opinion, not the best way to go about admissions. I guess that’s why we have two different systems tho. However…the UCs are often reluctant about telling you why you didn’t get in. CSU’s will tell you why if you call them and ask.
I was accepted into SFSU (Cinema BA) on December 22. I’m still waiting on CSUN (Film-Screenwriting) and CSULB (Film-Practice and Theory). I live in Long Beach and I’m a CCC transfer. GPA is 3.54
I applied to UCLA TFT last year and was rejected. I did not apply again this year. @unpaidguidence19 Are you a transfer as well? If I get into CSUN (I’m a little worried bc I’m not “local”) we should definitely chat bc it looks like our majors are the same!
@northremembers I remember you from the UCLA TFT thread last year! I guess the internet is a small world, haha. CSUN is really great and to be quite honest. I feel like with a 3.5 you should be solid because the minimum to get in is like a 2.5 and you’re in the A average range. If you have any questions about CSUN or its program, I’m more than happy to answer those too! Good luck!
My son decided to withdraw his application from CSUN because the attitude in the correspondence from the School of Music was very negative to the point of being hostile. If school administration can’t be nice while you’re being courted, imagine how you’ll be treated once you’re in and attending daily.
@STEMteacher I’m sorry that your son had a negative experience. I too had an unpleasant experience with a staff member at the school; but overall, the majority of the faculty is quite pleasant. Usually, if you complain about an employee, the administration takes it seriously. In a general sense, the school is a pretty friendly environment.
@unpaidguidance I should clarify that the rude emails were the last straw that lead to application withdrawal but not the whole story on CSUN. I kept a list of + and - of each of the eight schools S applied to. As we gathered information, CSUN quickly began to fall behind other institutions. Essentially, CSUN had ZERO attributes in which it beat the competition. For example, Long Beach’s proximity to the ocean, nice local neighborhoods, and strong major department far outmatched CSUN. Chico’s beautiful campus, sense of community, fun downtown, and personal attention in the major department were far better than CSUN, as well. Their rudeness, along with early admittance by Chico, made the decision to drop CSUN an easy one.
I applied on 10/2017 to only CSU’s. (Chico, Sac, Sonoma, and Cal Poly) I received one email a couple of days ago from Sonoma indicating that they had received my application and were forwarding to department for review. That’s it! My friend applied to Chico a few weeks after me and has already been accepted to Chico. I was told that the application date doesn’t matter. My grades are okay and my SAT was above Chico’s average. My friend and I have the same major, so I’m really becoming bummed about not hearing anything.
It can be a frustrating process. I would check the portals regularly, i recall my son’s status being switched to admitted several weeks before receiving a emails from Chico and Sonoma. . If your status puzzles you, or if you don’t have a portal account with all of them call today - while there is time to send them anything they might need to complete your ap.
@maddog00, My son had a similar experience last year. Some schools, like Cal Poly and CSUMB, were very timely and consistent. Sac State’s notification date was inaccurate, but it came early, so no complaints. Sonoma State, my alma mater, was all over the place. Several of his friends were notified much earlier than he was, yet we could find no pattern in application date, major, or GPA. In the end, he was accepted, but I was personally disappointed. SSU was a leading candidate for him, but since he received all of his other acceptances first, he began to consider other options. By the time he was notified, he was already envisioning himself at other schools.
Just hold tight and be happy about the acceptances that you receive. It can be an agonizing wait, but it WILL end. And soon.
