CSULB or CSUF for Business?

I’m not sure which is really better, but I’m 34 and I’ve always heard CSUF was better for business. So weather better or not, I think CSUF has a better reputation for business than CSULB.

I live near CSULB and have taught business at CSUF. Both are good schools, both are impacted. Both have good business programs. However, there is a very big difference in the feel of each school.

CSULB is bigger, busier and more difficult to navigate and you will compete for classes. Getting out of CSULB in 4 years will be a challenge. On the other hand, CSULB has a very good reputation. CSUF will be a smaller campus and potentially a bit less competitive to get classes and easier to navigate due to a smaller population.

However, you are lucky because you do not have to make a choice right now. Apply to BOTH and see where you get accepted. If you get into both schools, then go on a tour, meet professors and students and then make your decision based on facts and how you feel about each program.

Someone mentioned the surprising interest in the Cal States vs. the UC’s these days. Actually, it is not surprising. For business, the Cal States offer an undergrad degree unlike many, not all, UC’s. Also, the price difference is extraordinary. I really like the UC’s and I’ve taught business at UCLA in the past. But, where did I send my son? We made a choice to turn down 5 UC’s including UCLA and UCSD for Cal Poly SLO. Not only will we save $10,000 a year, but he will get a practical education that will set him up for a job. For some majors, like business and engineering, etc., the Cal States give the UC’s a run for their money.

Many will disagree with me and undoubtedly they have valid arguments which I respect. But, for my family the Cal States made more sense. When my kid gets his MS or PhD then a UC will be a natural choice if he chooses to go to a public school in CA. But for undergrad in a business or STEM major? Cal States are very compelling.

So are there any updates regarding CSUF and CSULB? Which business school is better nowadays for undergraduate degree? I saw that CSUF offers only BA degree while CSULB offers BS degree. Does that matter? Also, how are those 2 business schools vs SDSU business school for undergraduate degree?

@ebsclsgs: This is a really old thread. If you have questions, start a new thread. I would put SDSU above CSUF and CSULB for Business but you cannot go wrong with any of these schools for undergrad.
