CSULB vs CSUF For Illustration

Hi everyone, I was accepted to both CSULB and CSUF for fall 2012 as an Pre-Illustration major. In my opinion both universities have a solid illustration program and I would be happy attending either one. However after taking certain things such cost of living, location and catalog description in consideration, I'm leaning toward CSULB.

My question for those who have attended or attends either school is what are your opinions about your school? Do you feel you were given a solid foundation in which to build your artistic skills? Have you been able to obtain work (either as a freelancer or regular employee) based on the skills you've learned at either school? Any other info anyone can provide will be helpful as well. I'm open to hearing from art majors outside of the Illustration program as well.

Your thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated

i have friends who are in the industial design and illustration department, and they both love it. the programs is amazing, just that it will take you more than 4 years i heard to get a bfa.

Thanks for the response. I hope it doesn’t take another four years, considering I’m a transfer.

I have a friend who graduated from CSULB last year as an illustration major. She loved it and always had good things to say about it. I was in the same predicament as you (I’m a fashion merchandising major and got accepted to cal poly pomona and csulb for fall 2012) so I visited each campus, took a tour of the department, and met with professors/advisors. That would be your best option to look into and base your opinion off of that. good luck.
