@mchoneybone Sorry I’m not the person to ask about this sort of stuff since I only just applied to see if I will get in but according to this page https://www2.calstate.edu/attend/counselor-resources/Documents/transfer-2018-admission-impaction-chart.pdf I belive it means you have a high chance of getting in if they don’t run out of non-local spaces. Good luck
@mchoneybone I don’t mean to deliver bad news, but im pretty sure this years non-local minimum gpa is a 3.7 but honestly you are barely below that so i doubt you wont be absolutely dismissed, just thought I should mention it.
@mchoneybone local here.
Any updates in your portals guys?
@melyyg I am a local too, for me it says my transcripts have been received but are still pending evaluation. what about you?
Same here, what’s your major? @dbjavy
@melyyg I applied as public health, but i am going to switch over to biochem. what about you? how do you feel about your chances of getting in?
@FLH98K that helps actually lol hope there aren’t too many non local applicants then but I doubt that will be the case. Ah well fingers crossed. @dbjavy that’s what I’m afraid of but I’ve seen a few non locals on the forums talking about getting in with 3.5s so I’m just hoping, yknow?
@dbjavy biology, honestly idk my gpa isn’t the best 3.5 but Csun is my first choice. where else did you apply ? How do you feel about your chances of getting in?
@melyyg Since you are local, you have a pretty solid chance and biology goes completely off gpa im pretty sure
@mchoneybone Yeah im pretty sure you have a solid chance of getting in
applied as a cinema major, are there any other supplemental applications that need to be filled out for this major?
@pvgirl2015 I do not believe you are required to have a portfolio anymore as far as I read
@dbjavy thank you! and does anybody know how the whole “impaction” thing works for somebody who is considered local? I’m so confused… just wanting to know what my chances are of being admitted to the film program (2.4 minimum for locals) if I have a 2.8.
Actually you are. If you look up csun film portfolio you should find it
@ashley31836 is that just for film production? I’m a screenwriting major.
Yes just for film production.
@pvgirl2015 I am also a local transfer, and I have not been able to find a clear answer on how impaction affects us, but I heard that impaction doesn’t apply to us. Really not sure though.
Hello! Current CSUN student here!
I transferred back in Fall 2017, and I’m currently in my last semester before graduating. I like to pop-up in the transfer threads to help out and answer any questions to the best of my ability. I know it can be a stressful time so I’m happy to help when I can.
I’ve noticed a few questions pop up so I’ll address those now and if you have any more, feel free to ask.
- Does impaction effect local transfers?
- NO! As long as you have your 60 TRANSFERABLE units, CSU GE certification by the end of the SPRING 2019 semester, you meet your majors GPA requirement, and ALL your transcripts are sent in ON TIME...You're good to go!
- Are there any supplemental materials for CTVA majors in the film option?
- DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THIS...but I do not think that there is unless they specifically ask you for them (a lot has changed since I applied.) I believe you are admitted as a CTVA pre-major first and once you get to CSUN, you will apply for the film option after completing your lower division requirements. I would double check with the CTVA department to verify though! It's always better safe than sorry!
- SF vs. LA...
- I've noticed that when it comes to state schools, everybody wants to go far from their local school. CSUN was my literal LAST choice because it's too close to home for me but I visited SDSU, and although I loved the location, I hated the film program. Other people loved it though. SDSU was not for me...but neither was Northridge. I just made the most of my experience by doing well in my classes, going greek, and spending time appreciating the campus so that I could make the most of my time here. What I'm saying is...everybody has their place where they'll fit in and vibe. Just pick the school where you feel like you're at home and have a supportive community!
- When do decisions come out?
- I received mine on either March 8th or March 14th (I got all 8 of my decisions on different days but I know for sure it is one of those two dates.) Usually, CTVA majors are the last to hear back from admissions. I would say that you'll have your answer around the first week of March since they do the freshmen first. If you don't hear back by mid-march, give admissions a call and ask for the status of your application!
Just a heads up for everyone…the CSUN system resets every night at 2 am so there is no need to check it repeatedly throughout the day. Just check it when you get up in the morning The decisions are on your portal and your CSUN EMAIL.
Hope any of this helps!
@unpaidguidence19 ahhhh all super helpful! Thanks so much
@unpaidguidence19 Thank you for your detailed post!
@unpaidguidence19 do you know if the film production portfolio submission applies to transfer students or is it just for current students/sophomores who want to enter the film program?
Please see the link below. I’m stumped.
