My S (13, 8th grade) is going to take Fast Paced High School Biology this summer, and he wants to know if the course is an interesting one. Can anyone tell me their opinion on this course?

My D skipped the fast paced regular HS courses when she did CTY, not because of content - all the CTY courses seem to hit the right notes with the kids, but rather because of the challenges of dealing with local schools. Instead, she took courses she would not be able to take locally, and loved her CTY years.

Since the course will vary with the instructor, your best bet is to find out who is teaching it and what text(s) they plan to use. The main office in Baltimore should be able to help you.

Finally, have you looked at the sample syllabi? http://www.jhu.edu/cty/summer/ossyllabi.html

I took this course. It's just like the title said, Fast Paced. We often covered a more than a chapter a day and had daily quizzes as well. We also did alot of labs which were fun. Some of them included dissecting a fetal pig, a sheep's brain, and a cows eye. The course was definitely interesting and I learned a lot.
