My d wants to take a CTY self-paced online course (science) over the summer. Has anyone had experience with these courses (good or bad) that they could share? Mostly interested in the 'online' experience (was the material well-organized and well-presented, was the software reliable, etc).

Didn’t take it but many friends did and they have the highest praises for it, it’s extremely rigorous and you can’t go wrong with it, other online groups include Art of Problem Solving, and MathZoom, as well as EPGY or Education Program for Gifted Youth,

We had mixed experiences with the 2 CTY online courses my kids have taken. One course was excellent, the other so-so. The level and quality of interaction with instructors was quite different. One kid had very detailed and fast feedback, while the others waited a week or more for feedback on assignments. When it arrived, it was not always clear and did not really make me feel we were getting our money’s worth.

My son took two email based CTY courses on writing. It was very nice for him to get a page of comments on each assignment instead of a smiley face and “good job!” I think he learned a great deal. It was expensive for us, but I think it was worth it. The Analysis and Persuasion teacher held him to a very high standard and I appreciated that.
