Anyone here has experience with the CTY Summer AP classes? How do these classes compare to the real classroom experience? How about test and quizzes, do you have to travel to a proctor site for the exams? How about the transcript, do they send them directly to college admission office? Finally, anyone has any good or bad stories to tell? I am helping a kiddo to decide if he should take an AP class this summer online since his high school doesn’t offer the same class next year due to staff shortage. Thanks.
The problem is that no matter when they take a course, the test date is still in May. That’s a long time to retain that info. It does not give any kind of admissions boost. I have no experience with this program, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s an unnecessary filler. Unless of course, the goal is to get credit for college or placement out of Intro level courses. But that in itself doesn’t require a special summer course. My kid self studied for free and got a five on an AP course not offered at our high school. Your child can do that also, when the info will be fresher in his mind.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I was debating the issue. The AP Micro teacher in the kiddo’s school got gravely ill this past couple of wks. His school was scrambling to look for staff replacement but likely to cancel the class this fall (usually just 10-15 kids in the school take it anyway). The kiddo genuinely like the area, so he probably can self-study. I just worry the heavy senior load may weigh down his desire to do self-study. Will look further into the options…
Dwight Global Online School offers APs… You might want to check it out. We’ve had a good experience.
