@caymangirl38 good luck to your son! Was he able to put a second choice major in case they don’t accept him for Engineering? Like could he indicate he would then want to be considered for business or a liberal arts major?
@collegemom, thank you. He didn’t choose another major, but now wishing he did. He’s already been accepted to Embry-Riddle in Daytona with a great scholarship, so we have that as our safety net. He also applied EA to Penn State, but has been deferred w/ a lot of other people. We were supposed to have a decision by 12/24, but apparently they said that had an unprecedented number of apps and they couldn’t get to all of them. They said we’d have a decision by 1/31. So just now waiting anxiously.
@caymangirl38 if you haven’t gotten a decision yet they may allow him to still indicate a second major, or they may just accept him to the university (which would be liberal arts), I’m not sure. But since the criteria is so much more difficult to get in for Engineering, it would seem fair to still give him a shot at another major, especially if his stats are just as strong or stronger than the kids being accepted to other programs. Every school does this differently…I think Penn State can “deny” you but allow you to reapply as a different major. I guess you could call admissions and ask if you wanted to know. Good luck to him!!!
@caymangirl38 I’m pretty sure that if he is not accepted to engineering, he will be considered for pre-eng. If that doesn’t work out, he’ll be considered for arts and sciences and will be accepted in to that college as undeclared. Regardless of whether he indicated a back up major. Hope this helps! I’m not applying to the engineering school, this is just what I have seen on other threads.
@collegemomjam and @cate1121x
Thanks for the encouraging words. I forgot about the pre-engineering option, that would be good also. Fingers crossed ??
