CU Professor Forums

Who knows of a good forum or link to find information on Columbia professors? Ratemyprofessor is a great website, but there aren't any CU professors posted.

CULPA - Columbia Underground Listing of Professor Ability

...I was going to say the web site doesn't work anymore, but I was wrong! Yay!

It's a good web site to get a feel for some of the professors or the classes. But keep in mind, more often than not, the reviews were written by students in one of the two extremes: They either hated or loved the professor in question.

I would suggest looking at the 'golden nugget' section, where the best professors are listed. In general, though, take it with a pinch of salt. I'm taken classes with professors who were lambasted on CULPA, and didn't find them to be bad at all. PM me if you'd like suggestions for professors (I was a neuroscience major, so it'll mostly be sciency stuff--not sure I can be entirely helpful)

Thank you, bugmom. That site is exactly what I was looking for.

This is good advice if there are 1 or 2 bad reviews. Sometimes people just don't like someone's teaching style and they give bad reviews amidst some good and/or apathetic ones. However, if there are a LOT of bad reviews (look at Virginia Cornish), majority rule tends to win out.

Also, most of the professors that teach Principles of Econ tend to be reviewed pretty harshly mostly because the people that take anyone other than Gulati are only taking someone else's class because they couldn't get into Gulati's class.

I agree with Skraylor: if all or most of the comments are critical, avoid the class :)

Culpa is good except it's usually down when you need it most, i.e. during class registration time and the one teacher who had stellar culpa reviews who you were banking on doesn't fit in your schedule.

The website is down during class registration time? Then what is the point of the website in the first place?

I haven't had that experience. It's a finnicky web site, you may need to give it a few tries once in a while because there maybe too much traffic, but the only time I remember it being down was when the founder didn't know who to pass responsibility on to.

Same. In the past 2 years I can only remember it going down once and it was after my registration time anyways...

It's been consistently offline for me during my registration times.
